God sets authority over His Church.
2Pe
2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the
lust
of uncleanness, and despise government.
Presumptuous
[are
they], selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of
dignities.
11
Whereas angels, which are greater in power and
might,
bring not railing accusation against them before the
Lord. 12 But these,
as natural brute beasts, made to be taken
and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand
not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13
And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness,
[as]
they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time.
Spots
[they are] and blemishes, sporting themselves with their
own deceivings while they feast with you; 14 Having eyes full of
adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls:
an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15
Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following
the way of Balaam [the son] of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16
But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's
voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without
water, clouds that are carried
with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved
for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling [words] of
vanity,
they allure through the lusts of the flesh, [through
much]
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in
error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are
the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the
same is he brought in bondage.
20 For if after they have escaped
the pollutions of
the
world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is
worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better
for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after
they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered
unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true
proverb,
The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was
washed to her wallowing in the mire.
Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
2Peter
1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of
any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy
came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they
were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Jer. 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
1 Cor. 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom
among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of
this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery,
even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known
it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that
love him. 10 But
God hath revealed them unto us
by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things,
yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth
the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the
things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which
is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of
God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words
which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing
spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But
the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual
judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath
known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind
of Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
Return
When Paul says, "us," he is
referring to the apostles. Read carefully in context.
Return
So much for theology and trying
to understand Scripture by the power of the natural mind!
If Paul were referring to all Christians, rather than referring to the apostles, the phrase, "we have the mind of Christ," would make no sense. Paul is saying that God has given revelation to the apostles, and Paul would like to give it to the local church in Corinth, but he cannot because they are too immature in the Lord.
