CUMBERLAND GUARD
TRAINING CAMP @
FORT WAYNE, IN
Spring
Warm-up
sponsored by the
30th Indiana Infantry
Fort Rain, I mean Ft. Wayne
The title says it all. Rain was abundant and
it came down for a significant portion of the event. Yet, and most
importantly, the men stayed through the weekend and enjoyed themselves. The
camps were accessible and no one in the yanks got stuck trying to get out. Dry
wood was constantly being brought in. A few left Saturday but the vast
majority of stayed and enjoyed the beautiful weather of Sunday afternoon.
An unfortunate accident occurred during
Sunday's battle. Billie Dedman's horse decided there were too many people
mounted and made a foot soldier out of an unwilling Billie. The resulting
broken arm was painful but not as serious as it could have been. The best
wishes of the Guard are extended to Billie.
The schools on Saturday morning were well
received. The cadenced manual of arms really brought a crispness to the
brigade. The excellent music taught the men the various calls.
The later classes taught such varied topics
as sewing, first person, artillery, duties of a sergeant, duties of a staff
officer and how to improve your impression. Thanks to the instructors.
It was good to see a company of GHTI with
us. They contributed to the atmosphere a great deal.
Food? What a great meal on Saturday evening
with enough left over to have seconds on Saturday. A hearty congratulations to
the men and ladies of the 30th Indiana for an event well done.
Next up is Billie Creek. Get your
registrations in and email me your numbers. Looks like we will have a 2
battalion brigade there. If anyone would like to be on Brigade staff, let me
know.
