Another one of my favorites was a little band from England called Led Zeppelin. They were around from 1968 until 1980. The band consisted of Jimmy Page on lead guitar, John Bonham on drums, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards, and Robert Plant on vocals. They put out some of the finest rock of the heavy metal era. Led Zeppelin was formed from the remnants of the Yardbirds. Jimmy Page asked Robert Plant to join him in a new music project, John Paul Jones joined in and Plant recommended John Bonham as drummer. They were on their way!
The first album I bought of theirs was Led Zeppelin II. It just blew me away. Jimmy's guitar riffs were just great and John Bonham behind him on drums gave the music a thundering rock sound that would go down in music history. Led Zeppelin gave us the everlasting rock classic "Stairway to Heaven". I can remember skipping school, hanging out at the pinball arcade and listening to "Black Dog" on the juke box. Man those were some good memories! Wish I could relive them today. But we all have to grow up and become responsible adults. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On September 25, 1980, John Bonham was found dead in his bed following an all day drinking binge. He had passed out and choked on his own vomit. The rest of the guys just couldn't go on without him, so they broke up the band. But they will never be forgotten.
