The Couple

Nick and Wendy met in late March, 1991, when Wendy was a freshman at American University and Nick was a prospective freshman. Nick was visiting Lori Kurtyka, who had dated his brother Chris during high school.

Nick and Wendy share a lot of things in common, including an abiding interest in lucious wines. Their "cellar" (really a closet) is getting a little out-of-hand...Wendy's old formals might eventually have to be moved to another closet to make room for the fruit of the vine.

Nick is a research assistant at the Urban Institute, and is also pursuing his Master's of Public Administration at George Washington University. His version of the engagement story is online now!

Nick attended Richards Elementary in Whitefish Bay, before going on to being the debate and trumpet god of WFB High School.

Wendy was a computer specialist at Science until recently, when she took a job with a graphic design firm. Then, at the start of the new year, she's went to be fighting the good fight with a small non-profit which uses its talents and resources to help other non-profits utilize the web and other technologies. "New Tools for a New World" and "Geeks for Good." Now, she's back at Science as the Assistant Production Manager for Electronic Media. It's been a wild ride. She is looking to start grad school in the fall of 2000. She's fully aware that starting grad school at the same time one is getting married sounds like the height of folly. Wendy started off her scholastic career at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School in Oregon City, Oregon. Following huge success at the three R's as a Mountaineer, she then moved on to becoming a Cavalier at Thora B. Gardiner Junior High. Junior high can never be over too quickly, and thankfully, Oregon City High School was just a few years away. Wendy graduated in 1990, and flew off to the East Coast for college.
