Canadian Oil Companies Ltd.
White Rose Restaurants
In 1953 Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. introduced
their "New Look"
station design . At this time the checkerboard
arrangement of signs,
called "the pylon" also appearred. Also
new were the wedge shaped
pole signs and product logo. On the roof
of these new stations was
a sign the company referred to as 'the
elongated wedge", some
of these new signs read White Rose
while another era's read
Canadian Oil Dealer.
The White Rose stations shown in this
monthly feature all
incorporated a company designed restaurant
in their layout.
The first two photos are from a 1961 White
Rose promotional
brochure , while the next two are
undated postcard images.
Note the sign "RESTAURANT", another elongated
wedge .
I believe
there were two versions of the restaurant signs,
the one above is quite pointed
in the center , while another is
a slimmer,
more rounded design, as shown in the bottom photo.
I have no other information on the restaurants
but I wanted
everyone to know they exsisted and had their own sign design.
Perhaps some reader of this Feature has first-hand knowledge
and will share the information
