Soap
As early as 1923 , Canadian Oil
Companies Limited catalogs were listing En-ar-co Linseed
Oil Soap . The following description
is taken directly from their catalog:
"A pure vegetable product , and
especially recommended
for cleaning automobiles, railway
coaches, street cars, etc.
Cleans glassware , crockery
, mirrors , marble , storework ,
and cannot be equalled for use
in scrubbing and washing
In a unprecedented move , this petroleum
refinery was producing a pure vegetable product.
Possibly someone will be able to explain the connection
to me .
"Because of its purity , cleansing
and disinfecting qualities
it is splendid for cleansing
sores and wounds on animals."
also sold in 25 lb. pails and
50-lb., 100-lb. and 400-lb. drums.
I can't recall seeing any Soap produced after
they switched from the yellow tins in 1953.
Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. also
produced
White Rose Liquid Soap .
I don't believe it was linseed
oil based , but possibly a petroleum product .
It was available in numerous
shapes and sizes of containers .
During World War Two , many different containers were
used due to metal shortages
Here we have a book of soap leaves . Similar
to a match book, but much larger,
they proved to be a handy dealer give away .
Often kept in the vehicle for
roadside emergencies , the best advertising
is the gift that remains a
constant reminder of the company.
