Monthly Feature
February 2003
Canadian Oil Companies Ltd.
...The
March 2000 Monthly Feature covered Playing Cards given out by Canadian
Oil
Companies Limited . At the time,
I concluded that the company had given out decks
of playing cards to ship captains
to provide them with entertainment on long voyages.
I also mentioned that I had
heard rumors that wood cribbage boards were also
presented to them, but I had
never seen one...........................................
This
board , complete with its original cardboard sleeve, substantiates the
rumor.
Both the cards and the crib
board are imprinted with White Rose Bunker Fuel Oil,
a product associated with large
oil tankers. Another possible recipient of these gifts
could have been land based stationary
engineers.
"The Pick of Them All ! " slogan
was used from the early 40's and into the 50's.
while the White Rose logo on
the playing cards was used between 1953 and 1963.
In the
near future, I hope to create a Monthly Feature telling the story
of Canadian Oil Companies' oil
tankers. If any readers care to share their
memories, stories or ship photos
