After
a 3 month break--I'm back with another
Monthly Feature
(August
1999)
Promotional Toys of
Canadian Oil Companies Ltd.
I
have chosen a different
area of collecting for this months feature and for many it may have
been their first White Rose possession , received when they were a child
. I remember some of these from my childhood , but never owned one at the
time . Could this be the root of my obsession?
The photo above
shows the two most common toys of Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. , the
larger is a Minnitoy tanker , built by the Otaco Company of Orillia , Ontario
, Canada
(circa 1958 - 1962 ?) and retailed
for $8.95
The smaller tank truck
, as they were called , is a product of London Toy Company of London Ontario.
(circa 1952)
Another Minnitoy version with the different (earlier)

Two views of the "London Toy" tanker
White Rose tankers featured a key to wind-up
the spring
driven motor powering the front axle. While
other companies
gave out (sold?) similar London tankers , most did
not have the
wind-up axle.
