I have
been trying to find out more on the White Rose Ultra series
tins in this photo. As no one has been able to help me I will tell
you what I have found. White Rose "ultra" products were introduced
in 1953 , I believe, and included Ultra Gasoline , Oils and Grease.
Sometime after that Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. expanded their automotive
product line to include brake fluid and windshield washer anti-freeze.
It appears these were given their own container style and logo.
Graphics were a pale blue-green and the rose leaves are shown in
silhouette and while the slogan "The All Canadian Company" logo
dates this series after 1958 they retained the speckled background
of the pre 1958 oil tins .Oil and grease tins did not share this style
logo.
The one gallon brake fluid tin (L) and the 16 oz. cone-top windshield
washer anti-freeze tin (center) were products of Canadian Oil Companies
but the brake fluid quart (R) was labeled "Canadian Oil Company
- A division of Shell Canada".
Canadian Oil Companies Limited was purchased by Shell Canada in 1962
.
In the years to follow "super heavy duty" Brake Fluid was marketed
in green and white , 12 oz., cone-top tins . These carried the wedge shape
logo and "division of Shell Canada" but no longer used the
"ultra" name.
