America's solution to this GOD-Awful income tax-which was created in the same year as the Federal Reserve-is two fold and very fundamental. Fundamental, of course, to those that still believe there's an answer.

First, we must have a leader who can and will convince the majority of America to do that which Abraham Lincoln asked us to do in 1863. With grave concern and little hesitation, he uttered these immortal words; "We have been the recipients of the choisest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten GOD ! We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengnthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virture on their own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the GOD that made us. It behooves us, then, to HUMBLE OURSELVES BEFORE THE OFFENDED POWER, TO CONFESS OUR NATIONAL SINS, AND TO PRAY FOR CLEMENCY AND FOR FORGIVENESS."

Second, we must replace the current income tax system with one that is simple, fair and . . . . Constitutional. Many have dallied with the idea of a flat tax, which is purely an end run with new players from the same team. Or another example would be to send in the second string and scoring points while never allowing your opponents in the game. What will bring the other players into the game, however, is the NATIONAL RETAIL SALES TAX, a consumption tax, if you please.

If you recall, the idea of replacing the income tax is not new. Thomas Jefferson, the Democratic parties first president, abolished it when he took office in 1801. He said in a letter written to John Dickenson, later in that same year, " You will perhaps be alarmed, as some have been, at the proposition to abolish the whole internal taxes, we also abolished three-fourth of the offices now existing and spread over the land...." Unlike most politicians of his time or now, he practiced what he preached. He reduced the national debt-NOT DEFICIT-by almost half in eight years, even though he discharged an army of tax collectors.

If we are to believe that the era of big government is over, then why doesn't Bill Clinton follow in the same historical path as his name-sake ? Why won't he cut the debt and deficit the best way known to man and the Democratic party ? Why ? Because his socialist New World Order bridge to the 21st. century-which promises to be his legacy-must be paid for by the working middle class. The only class that maxists have ever truely loathed. Simply put, a comsumption tax would tax his rich friends who put him in to the White House.

Sherman Unkerfer, past consultant to the late Congressman Larry McDonald, who is the chief spokesman for AMERICAN'S FOR CONSTITUTIONAL ACTION-a non partisan grass roots effort to replace the income tax with the NATIONAL RETAIL SALES TAX-stopped by for coffee in March. What he shared with me and CRA Membership Chairmen and City Council candidate, Kelly West, was already on our hearts. We hoped and prayed, that day, for the ultimate fulfilment of this Constitutional answer. Sherman Unkerfer, who has been in this fight for many years, in my mind, must be contacted,(1-619-724-1844) and supported.

Congressmen Dan Schafer(R-Col) and Billie Tauzin(R-La) have already crafted a, bill-HR 3039, which will replace the current system with the NRST. Sam Johson(R-Tx) has put together a joint resolution, HJR 176, called the "TAX FREEDOM BILL" proposing to amend the Constitution and abolish the 16th amendment. At this point in time, I can confidentually say that momentum has started, but we must not become lax at this time.

A few month back, I received in the mail great news from the AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE UNION. They urged in their letter, to contact Congressman Bill Archer, Chairman of the "Way and Means Committee." They believe if hundreds of thousands of American's respond to the call, Congress will hear and the President will have to respond.
