Hell House

Major Charactres: Nomad Crew, "Maeve," Mala, Scratch

(The crew is at the Nomad which is docked at Albedon)

Bryn: (walks up to Doubar) Where's Sinbad?

Doubar: He went into town to settle the accounts.

Bryn: I wish he would have let me know. (can't make out what she says here)

Doubar: You can probably still catch him. We have lots of time before the next tide, if that's the way things are going.

Firouz: Hang on, Akeersi!

(Bryn is walking along the dock when Mala comes up behind her)

Mala: Bryn?

(Bryn turns)

Bryn: Have we met?

Mala: No, but I know all about you. You're a friend of Sinbad's.

Bryn: I am. And you?

Mala: We were close a long time ago. If you care for him, like I think you do, you'll get him on his ship and away from this island now.

Bryn: I can't. He's not here.

Mala: Where is he?

Bryn: He's gone back to town.

Mala: Oh no. It can't be too late.

Bryn: If you're a friend of his, you can wait on board. We're just docked right over there.

(Bryn turns and sees that Mala has disappeared)

(Sinbad is walking through an empty town)

Sinbad: Hello! Is anyone there? Hello!

(Sinbad keeps walking)

Sinbad: Anybody there?

(Sinbad is suddenly surrounded by mist)

Maeve: Sinbad! Help me!

Sinbad: (whispers) Maeve…

Maeve: Sinbad!

(Sinbad runs in the direction of the voice; he comes to a cloaked woman)

Sinbad: Maeve! Is that you?

(Maeve turns around and shows her face)

Sinbad: Are you alright?

Maeve: Help me, Sinbad! Help me!

(Maeve runs away from him)

Sinbad: Maeve!

(Sinbad chases after her)

(Doubar and Bryn are talking)

Doubar: She was probably just some local crackpot trying to play a joke on a lowly sailor.

Bryn: I didn't get that at all. She didn't seem like she was from around here. Dressed in blue…the coin around her neck…

Doubar: A gold coin.

Bryn: Yeah. Very old.

Doubar: Roman.

Bryn: You know her?

Doubar: Impossible!

(Doubar turns and leaves)

Bryn: Doubar! What's wrong?

(Sinbad is chasing after Maeve)

Sinbad: Is this some kind of joke?

(Sinbad is almost hit by lightning)

Sinbad: No joke!

Maeve: Sinbad! Help me!

(Sinbad goes after Maeve)

(Sinbad comes up to a building)

Sinbad: Board in a storm.

(Sinbad enters the building, and the eyes of the symbol on the door glow red)

(Opening credits)

(Sinbad is inside the building)

Sinbad: (can't make out what he says here)

(Sinbad is attacked by bats; he swings at them, and they eventually leave)

Sinbad: I hate bats.

(Scratch comes closer, sitting on his chair)

Scratch: Don't go away. It's time to play! (laughs) (can't make out what he says here) (laughs)

Sinbad: You!

Scratch: You're expecting the tooth fairy? (laughs)

Sinbad: What do you want?

Scratch: You, Sinbad.

Sinbad: No offense, but you're not my type. (turns to leave)

Scratch: If you go, you'll never find out about the girl.

(Sinbad stops and turns)

Sinbad: She's here?

Scratch: And yours for the taking.

Sinbad: What's the catch?

Scratch: Ah, the direct approach. I like that. Well, the catch is: you join me…fight on behalf of the dark forces. I'll get your services, and your soul. You get the girl. (laughs)

Sinbad: Not a chance.

Scratch: Oh, come on! Join the dark side. You're already dressed for it. Nice outfit, by the way.

(Sinbad looks down at his outfit)

Sinbad: I want the girl.

Scratch: And you shall have her. And hundreds of others! If you join me. (can't make out what he says here) Here's the deal, (can't make out what he says here) You fit the bill.

Sinbad: You're wasting your breath.

(Scratch laughs as he breathes on Sinbad, who wipes it away)

Scratch: Now, before we get to the girl, there's (can't make out what he says here) You do more harm than good. Think about it, Sinbad. (can't make out what he says here)

Sinbad: Tell that to the people I've helped.

Scratch: (can't make out what he says here)

(Scratch shows Sinbad images of people who died)

Sinbad: Mustapha!

Scratch: Remember Mustapha? He doesn't look too pleased about joining your crew. There goes Master Dim-Dim. Wave bye to your master, Sinbad.

Sinbad: I don't have to watch this.

Scratch: Oh, but you do! You're drawn to it, aren't you?

Maeve: (in reflection) Sinbad! (screams)

Sinbad: (in reflection) Maeve!

Scratch: There goes your girlfriend. Maeve, was it?

(Sinbad in the reflection looks back at Doubar)

Doubar: (in reflection) Sinbad! No!

(Sinbad in the reflection dives into the ocean)

Scratch: Down the drain. Into the drink. Glug, glug, glug. (laughs) Due to your misguided heroics.

(Sinbad takes out his dagger and chucks it at the mirror, smashing it)

(Scratch laughs)

Sinbad: (draws sword and points it at Scratch's neck) I could kill you right now.

Scratch: Actually, you couldn't. But for argument's sake, let's say you could. You kill quite a bit, Sinbad, don't you? It comes quite easily to you, along with your temper. Think about it. The way you feel when you kill.

Sinbad: I do what I have to do to help people.

Scratch: (laughs) Justifications are mindless things. The more you kill in anger, the closer we become. Take a look in the mirror. See what you're becoming.

(Sinbad looks and sees a reflection of what he may become)

Scratch: Looks like you're reaching (can't make out what he says here) Kind of an interesting look though, don't you think?

Sinbad: I won't become that thing. I won't!

(Scratch laughs)

(Mala enters)

Mala: No, you won't. The choice is still yours.

Scratch: You! Get out! You have no right to be here!

Mala: Throw me out.

Scratch: You know I can't do that!

Mala: (can't make out what she says here)

Sinbad: Who are you?

Mala: A friend. And one who will do her best to get you out of here alive.

Scratch: He can walk out right now, and leave the girl.

Sinbad: (to Mala) I have to find her. Mala: It could be a trap.

Sinbad: I have to know that Maeve's alright.

Mala: (to Scratch) His heart is still good and strong.

Scratch: For the time being. You'll work for me yet.

Mala: Where's the girl?

Scratch: In the dungeon. All you have to do is find her.

Sinbad: That's all?

Scratch: (laughs) That'll be plenty.

(Sinbad turns to leave; Mala follows)

Scratch: You! you can't go with him!

Mala: You stopped me once, Scratch. This time, you can't.

Scratch: Damn you!

Mala: Not likely.

Sinbad: Why are you doing this? You don't even know me. Or Maeve.

Mala: Let's just say, we're cut from the same cloth.

(Sinbad and Mala are pushed into the next room)

(The room is filled with must)

Sinbad: Remind me never to use his decorator. (pauses as he looks around) Well, this place looks safe enough to me.

(A cloaked demon appears)

Sinbad: I may have spoken too soon.

(Sinbad fights the demon)

Mala: Sinbad!

(Sinbad fights more)

Scratch: (his voice) Now, you two play nice! (laughs)

(Sinbad continues to fight)

(The demon appears to not be there anymore)

(The demon comes again, and he and Sinbad fight)

(Sinbad destroys the demon)

Sinbad: Let's go.

(Mala stays put as she sees two demons appear)

(Sinbad notices the demons)

Sinbad: You brought along a friend.

(Sinbad fights them)

(Sinbad destroys them)

Sinbad: We have to get to the dungeon.

(Sinbad is about to leave, but again Mala stays put as she sees four demons appear)

(Sinbad notices the four demons)

Sinbad: It's getting a little crowded in here.

Mala: Use your head, not your sword.

Sinbad: What?

Mala: Scratch is toying with you. Remember what he said. Every time you kill an anger, you and he grow closer. These warriors are already dead.

(Sinbad fights)

Mala: When you unleash your anger, you increase their power. Kill one, another one appears.

Sinbad: I'm open to suggestions.

(Sinbad continues fighting)

Mala: Think. They're programmed to kill anything in their way.

Sinbad: Right now, I'm the only thing in their way.

Mala: And only you can change that.

(Sinbad kicks a demon)

Sinbad: Then I'll get out of their way.

(Sinbad fights)

Mala: Remember, your sword is useless!

(Sinbad flips, and two demons kill each other; he does it again to the other two)

Mala: You did it.

Sinbad: Barely. We have to get a move on.

Mala: It's alright to be confused.

Sinbad: I'm not.

Mala: And hurt. And angry.

Sinbad: I don't know what you're talking about.

Mala: Sometimes when we lose someone we love, we pretend not to hurt. We pretend we're too tough to care. And eventually, we forget we're pretending.

Sinbad: You're risking your life for me. I don't even know your name.

Mala: You can call me Mala.

Sinbad: Lady's first.

Mala: Not a chance.

Sinbad: I was just being polite.

(They leave)

(Doubar takes out a box, opens it, and hands Bryn a scroll with the drawing of a woman--Mala--on it)

Doubar: Is that the woman you saw?

Bryn: Yes. How did you get this? Where?

Doubar: She always loved blue. Said it reminded her of the sky. And the gold coin reminded her of the sun. It brought her luck.

Bryn: Doubar? What's going on?

Doubar: I never thought she'd ever come back.

Bryn: Doubar.

Doubar: But she did. (gets up) Rongar! Firouz! We're heading out! Bryn, I want you to order Dermott to stay put.

Firouz: But the loading!

Doubar: Tallos can supervise the loading. We're going back to town.

Firouz: Why?

Doubar: We have to save Sinbad.

Firouz: From what?

Doubar: Death.
