Major Charactres: Nomad Crew, Bellamur, Jial, Turhan, Colossus
Minor Charactres: Men
(The crew is relaxing on a beach)
Firouz: One truly finds oneself in contemplative relaxation, don’t you agree?
Doubar: Let me put it this way: to the good life!
Sinbad: To the good life!
Maeve and Firouz: To the good life!
(Rongar holds up his cup in agreement)
Maeve: I only wish my magic could conjure days like these.
Sinbad: It’s a day like this you wish would stretch out, sweet and long, without a single interruption.
(Some men approach the crew)
Man: Hey! Which one of you is Sinbad?
Sinbad: That would be me. Who’s asking?
Man: I am!
(He comes closer, and he and Sinbad walk around each other; the man swings, Sinbad ducks, and the crew fights all the men that came)
Firouz: (trips a man) Euphemistically, it’s called getting the wind knocked out of you. I assure you it’s a passing condition.
(The man gets up and trips Firouz)
Firouz: Now, that was completely uncalled for!
(There is more fighting)
Maeve: (kicks a man) Come on.
(The man advances on her, but Doubar gets him)
Maeve: Nice finishing touch.
Doubar: Hey, no problem.
(There is more fighting; Sinbad finally defeats the last guy, who’s the leader)
Sinbad: Okay, are we acquainted, yet?
Man: (gets up) Enough! Let’s go!
(The men leave)
Doubar: Friendly bunch.
Maeve: How delightful.
Sinbad: I wonder what that was all about.
(Bellamur comes from behind the rocks)
Bellamur: It was about me! (the crew turns) They were trying to stop you from getting to me.
(Opening Credits)
Bellamur: I’ve heard tales of your strength. To have it confirmed is wonderful! Maeve, every bit is stunning as reported. (laughs as he takes one of Rongar’s dirks) Didn’t even need these. Just flashes of hands and feet. Amazing, really. (hands the dirk back to Rongar) Firouz, a man of science. Your skills will likewise be much needed. Sinbad and his invincible crew.
Sinbad: We’re glad you’re a fan, but who are you?
Bellamur: My name is Bellamur. Perhaps you’ve heard of me?
Sinbad: Your name is known throughout the high seas.
Doubar: The warrior who conquered the Gryphon of Grief.
Firouz: And led the revolt against Singhaid the tyrant!
Bellamur: Those are my rough and tumble days. Of late, I resigned my headwidths to commerce. I’m a trader. And as luck would have it, I have mastered a comfortable fortune.
Sinbad: A conqueror of commerce as well. Good for you.
Bellamur: My life has been good, up until recently.
Maeve: Why, what happened?
Bellamur: My wife, the beautiful Jial, has been kidnapped.
Sinbad: Do you know who kidnapped her?
Bellamur: A brigain named Turhan.
(Sinbad looks back at his crew)
Bellamur: You’ve heard of him?
Sinbad: We’ve crossed paths. I even have the scars to prove it. But I’ve always found him to be a somewhat noble rogue and worthy rivalry.
Bellamur: He’s worthy and noble no more. Those men who attacked you were a gang of his bandits. No doubt sent by Turhan, to stop me from meeting you.
Doubar: What do you want of us?
Bellamur: To hire you for my beautiful wife’s rescue. You’re my last hope.
Sinbad: Where has Turhan taken him?
Bellamur: To his base camp, just beyond the Valley of Colossus.
Doubar: Colossus? The rock giant who is said to crush all who enter his valley?
Maeve: Well, we’d need magic far greater than my own to even find this Valley of the Colossus, let alone survive his clomping.
Bellamur: Correct. And I can provide it. I understand you’re the gifted apprentice of that great magician, Dim-Dim. (hands Maeve a bag) In this bag, is an ancient book of magic, a map, and all the essentials required. I spent a fortune getting hold of it.
Maeve: You must love your wife greatly.
Bellamur: I’ll spend whatever it takes and do whatever needs doing, in order to get her back to me. Unfortunately, Turhan threatened to kill Jial on site, if I attempted any rescue efforts. Knowing the dangers involved, will you help me? I’ll see that you’re richly rewarded.
Sinbad: I reason we can rescue her. And, we could use the money. Agreed?
Doubar: For a lawfy idea with a full purse, sounds agreeable to me!
Bellamur: Meaning you’ll go?
Sinbad: Meaning we’ll go.
(The crew is resting)
Sinbad: I really don’t like the looks of this place.
Maeve: This is nothing. The Valley of the Colossus is where the real danger lurks.
Firouz: According to this map, Turhan’s stronghold is surrounded by mountains. We first have to locate the secret entrance to the valley, then find it’s tunnel to the base camp.
Sinbad: How close is the valley?
Firouz: Should be right nearby, somewhere. It will be marked by the carving of the Colossus.
(Maeve is reading the magic book, and Rongar is picking up each of the things lying there, and holding them up to Maeve, wondering what each is)
Maeve: That’s the conjuring bowl. (pauses while Rongar picks up something else) Those are snake eyes. (points to each of the other things, telling Rongar what each is) Those are pelican beaks. And that, that’s…that’s from a part of a pig you don’t wanna know about.
(Rongar rolls his eyes)
Doubar: Well, sounds like we’ve got everything we need. Shouldn’t we get started?
(Men approach them from above, on a rock)
Sinbad: First, we may have to greet our welcoming committee. I think now would be a good time to find that nearby entrance to the Valley of the Colossus.
Leader: So, what brings you to the edge of the Valley of the Colossus?
Sinbad: Would you believe we’re lost?
Firouz: I thought I found a shortcut to the Harbour of Night. It turned out it was an earthworm lying on the map, but—
(Firouz gives up)
Sinbad: What brings you here?
Leader: Just who do you think you are?
Sinbad: I think I’m Sinbad. Who do you think you are?
Leader: Turhan knew it would be you. He says turn back or die.
Sinbad: Well, since you put it that way, would you allow me a few moments to consult with my crew? (turns to face crew) All right, we’re gonna keep him busy. You and Maeve find the entrance.
Maeve: Sounds good.
Sinbad: (turns back to the men) I’m sorry, but I think we’re gonna push on. (to Maeve and Firouz) Go!
Firouz: This way!
Leader: Stop! I said stop! This is your last chance! Turhan doesn’t want to harm you, but you give us no alternative!
Sinbad: Then take your best shot! Get ready to dance.
(The men raise their bows and arrows)
Sinbad: Okay…let’s dance!
(The men start shooting arrows; Sinbad, Doubar, and Rongar turn and run)
Doubar: You know, I don’t dance as well as you do!
(They keep running)
Leader: Halt!
(They keep running, then stop)
Sinbad: Where did Maeve and Firouz make off to?
(They leave their temporary hiding spot)
(The men are after them, Sinbad uses the bow he stole from a fallen archer to put under a large boulder, so that they could push it to roll down the hill after the men; the rock rolls to them)
Sinbad: Let’s go!
(They take off running)
(Dermott is looking for the secret entrance)
(Maeve and Firouz come around a corner)
Firouz: Should be right here.
Maeve: You mean here, where Dermott is?
Firouz: Yeah, where he is.
(They walk up to the door)
Maeve: Now it’s time for the conjuring.
(She takes out everything in the bag)
(Sinbad, Doubar, and Rongar are still running from the archers)
Sinbad: Here, Rongar! (hands Rongar the bow and arrows he is carrying)
(They keep running)
(Maeve and Firouz are putting together all the ingredients)
Firouz: Come on, Maeve. Hurry!
(Sinbad, Doubar, and Rongar are still running from the archers)
Sinbad: Firouz! Maeve! Anybody see them?
Doubar: They’re getting better.
Sinbad: Must be all the practice.
(Maeve and Firouz are putting together all the ingredients; they finish)
Maeve: Certainly smells powerful. (hands the conjuring bowl to Firouz)
Firouz: Reminds me of the time I spent downwind of a dying yak! Now what?
Maeve: Oh, let me look. (opens the book) Now we, ah, pour it over the carving.
(Firouz hands back the bowl; Maeve pours it over the carving, but nothing happens)
Firouz: Nothing seems to be happening.
Maeve: Maybe I did something wrong. (opens book)
(The door glows, and shows the Valley of the Colossus)
Firouz: Wait a minute.
(Maeve looks up)
Maeve: (to Dermott) Wait here.
(Maeve and Firouz go through the doorway)
(Maeve and Firouz are walking through the Valley of the Colossus)
Firouz: Amazing. A white sand desert.
Maeve: And the stomping grounds of the Colossus.
(Sinbad, Rongar, and Doubar are still running from the archers; Sinbad sees Dermott waiting for them)
Sinbad: Look! (points) It’s Dermott!
Doubar: If we make a run for it, we’ll be right out in the open!
Sinbad: We’ll have to chance it.
Doubar: I hate it when you put it that way.
Sinbad: Come on. You love a good risk and you know it!
(They draw their swords and run to Dermott)
Sinbad: Where are they, Dermott?
(Dermott chirps; Sinbad looks behind him and sees the doorway glow orangish; the three men and hawk go through the door)
(The men come up and see the carving)
(Sinbad, Rongar, Doubar, and Dermott find Maeve and Firouz in the Valley of the Colossus)
Doubar: You two could have waited.
Maeve: That was exactly what Dermott was doing.
Sinbad: So this is the Valley of the Colossus.
Maeve: This is it.
Doubar: A real vacation spot.
(They start walking)
Sinbad: What do we need to know about this Colossus?
Maeve: If he comes to life, we’re as good as dead.
Doubar: Couldn’t you say anything a little more encouraging?
Maeve: We’ll probably die quickly.
Sinbad: Where might we encounter this friendly giant?
(They stop walking)
Firouz: The map doesn’t specify it’s exact location.
(A roar is heard)
Sinbad: Did you hear anything?
Doubar: You’re right, Sinbad. I could’ve sworn—
Sinbad: (looks up and sees a rock monster standing above them) I think we found the Colossus!
(Everyone looks up)
Sinbad: Run for it!
(They run from the monster)
Sinbad: Over here!
(They hide behind a clump of grass)
Doubar: That thing isn’t going to let us sit here forever.
Firouz: Maybe we could talk to him.
Doubar: Right. It just wants to give us some bread and berries and make us feel welcome.
Sinbad: Maeve, use your book. There must be something in there.
(Maeve looks in her book)
Sinbad: Anything?
Maeve: I’m looking! I’m looking! Wait! Here! Here’s an incantation.
Sinbad: (rolls eyes) Well?!
Maeve: It’s hard to make out the words!
Sinbad: Can’t wait any longer! I’m going to go and try to distract it!
(He runs towards the Colossus)
Sinbad: Hey Stoney! Over here! (waves arms) Yeah! Come and get me, you…you unemployed rock pile! Come on!
(The Colossus sees Sinbad, and runs after him)
(The rest of the crew runs a little closer)
Maeve: Doy, doy…doy, doy…
Firouz: You said that already!
Maeve: It’s hard to make out the words. I’m starting over.
Doubar: We haven’t got time for repeats!
Maeve: UGH! What do you want me to do? You can’t just point your finger at the thing and yell STOP, and it stops!
(Maeve’s magic stops the creature, and Sinbad turns around)
Sinbad: Nice work.
Maeve: Oh, well maybe you can.
(The crew walks up to Sinbad)
Maeve: Thanks.
(Sinbad smiles and nods his head to her)
Doubar: Are you sure that thing is stopped?
Maeve: I have no idea.
Doubar: What would you need to be sure for sure?
Sinbad: How about we just get out of here, and find the tunnel to Turhan’s camp?
Firouz: (looks at map) Let’s see. (sighs) I’m gonna have to make an educated guess.
(Rongar taps Firouz on the shoulder and points to a doorway, where Dermott has landed)
Firouz: Looks like a good guess.
(They run to the door; Sinbad pauses)
Doubar: What are we waiting for?
Sinbad: I’m thinking that if we went with Bellamur’s wife, we’ll be coming back through this tunnel in a very big hurry. It’d be nice to be able to close up the tunnel after we come through.
Firouz: (holds up exploding sticks) I think we can do that.
Doubar: Let’s just make sure we don’t kill ourselves in the process.
Sinbad: No. It’s a matter of timing. We simply close it up after we rush through.
Firouz: We’ll have to be moving fast.
Sinbad: Given Turhan’s abilities, I don’t think that’ll be a problem.
(They walk through the door)
(The crew is watching the men in Turhan’s stronghold)
Doubar: Turhan’s not just going to let us saunter in and take her.
(Rongar joins them)
Sinbad: How many men did you count?
(Rongar signs twenty)
Sinbad: Twenty. Turhan’s keeping his ranks light.
Doubar: Only twenty. This job gets easier and easier.
Sinbad: (looks through magniscope) Ah. There’s the old nemesis. Turhan himself.
Maeve: Did you see her?
Sinbad: No. (watches Turhan walk into a building) But that must be where they’re keeping her. Here. (holds the magniscope up to Maeve’s eye)
Firouz: Isn’t this where you’re supposed to say, ‘I have a plan’?
Sinbad: (takes magniscope down) Never doubt the Captain.
Firouz: I wasn’t doubting. I was happily anticipating.
Sinbad: And now we wait. When it gets late, and night falls, anything is possible.
