Chapter 40

The next day Kristin, Zac, Beth, Isaac, & Kate were outside rollerblading. When it started to snow heavily, Taylor, who was inside finishing up his homework, grabbed his coat and came outside. Everyone else went inside to grab their coat, then came back outside. By that time there was a foot of snow. (A.N. I know it probably doesn't snow that much it that short amount of time, but it does in MN, so just go along with it) Taylor threw a snow ball at Beth. She turned around, ran after him and pushed him into a snow bank. "Have you ever been white washed?" Beth asked him sweetly. "What's a white wash?" Taylor asked. "Do you want to be white washed?" Beth asked again, ignoreing his question. Taylor, who thought that it was some sort of food, agreed. Beth knelt down, grabbed two big handfuls of snow, then smeared it in Taylor's face. "Now you've been white washed," Beth said as she stood up and went inside. After a while Beth went to her room. By that time everyone else was sitting in the living room, talking & drinking hot cocoa. When Beth returned to the living room she was furious. "Alright, where did my flowers go?" She asked angrily. "What flowers?" Isaac asked, not remembering seeing any flowers. "The dozen roses that were hanging upside down by my mirror," Beth hissed. "Oh, I threw thhose away in the garbage dissposal," Taylor said cheerfully. "WHAT?!?" Beth yelled, shocked, then continued, "You THREW them in the GARBAGE dissposal!?!" Beth ran back into her room, dove onto her bed, then began sobbing. "That was low," Kristin said, just as angrily as Beth had spoke, to Taylor. "Why is throwing dead flowers away so low?" Taylor asked confussed. "Those dead flowers ment the world to Beth. They're priceless," Kate said sturnly. "Taylor, come over here. Let me tell you the story behind those flowers," Kristin said as Taylor came and sat down next to her. "Once when I was over at Beth's house, we went into her room. I looked around, then spotted those flowers on her bullitin board. They were dead and all dried up. I asked 'If Lindsay always cleans your room, why doesn't she throw those flowers away?' Then she told me the story I'm about to tell you. She said, 'When I was born, my dad left the hospital saying that he would be back as soon as he could. For the next two hours he searched all of St. Paul for the best 12 red roses. When he returned to the hospital he gave the flowers to me. My mom asked, 'Why?'' Beth said her father's answer was, 'I want to be the first guy to ever give my daughter flowers,' Now do you understand why those flowers ment the world to her?" Taylor, thumping his head in his hands, replied, "I'm the world's biggest jerk!" The nran to the hall closet, got his coat & shoes on, then walked to the front door. He turned around, looked at Isaac, then demanded, "Ike, take me to the floral shop!" "Taylor, you can't replace those flowers," Kate said gently. "I know I can't replace them, but I have to at least try," Taylor said as he and Isaac headed for the car.
