The Folds > ISF Fundraising Programs

The International Service Fund is BBYO's primary fundraising commitment. Our members can better understand the concept of Tzedakah (charity) by giving of themselves.

Moneys collected for ISF go to:
  • Leadership projects and programs
  • Projects in Israel
  • Disaster Funds
  • Administration of ISF programs
Your chapter should be planning fundraising activities over the program year.

ISF Carnival - Have a Carnival -- darts at balloons, sponge throwing, fortune telling, etc. Charge a small entrance fee and a certain amount per game at each booth. You can also bake things at home and sell them at the carnival. (Alan Fogel - Asst Director SIA - 3/25/99)

Breakfast Sign-Up - Have a breakfast -- members have to sign up in advance to attend. If they sign up and don't attend it costs them 50 cents. If they come and they didn't sign up it costs them $1.00. If they signed up and they come it costs them 25 cents. (Alan Fogel - Asst Director SIA - 3/25/99)

Book Sale - Get members and staff to contribute used paperbacks as well as old magazines. Also, go around to the community and ask people to donate some. Sell these for 25, 50 or 75 cents depending on their condition. (Alan Fogel - Asst Director SIA)

Raffle - Have members of the community donate items to be raffled off. (Alan Fogel - Asst Director SIA)

A-Thons - Conduct for example, a Walk-A-Thon. Ask friends and relatives to pledge a given amount per mile (perhaps 50 cents or $1.00) You can have any number of sponsors, the more the better. For variation adapt the same principal to a Bike-A-Thon, Munchkin-Eating-A-Thon, Talk-A-Thon, etc. (Alan Fogel - Asst Director SIA)

Egg Sale - Start out with one or two eggs from one of the kids' houses and go from door to door in your neighborhood. At the first house ask if they would like to buy an egg. Explain what you are raising funds for and even if they don't want an egg, they will most likely give you money. When you're eggless, go to the next house and ask if they would like to donate an egg or some money. Always explain the cause. (Cori Daniels-Kleiner 1/15/99)

Merchandise - BBYO merchandise can be sold to members at all conventions and programs as well as at the Shuk (marketplace) at International Convention. BBYO merchandise might include: T-shlirs, hats, boxer shorts, yamakahs, water bottles, key chains, frisbees, towels, windbreakers, engraved pens, candies, buttons, wallets, etc.

Anything Service - Compile a list of chapter members who are willing to do odd jobs around your community and the times they are available. Then when someone from the community contacts the person who is in charge, he can dispatch members to do the job. Remember, the more people doing each job the more fun for the members working.

Auction - Hold an auction with goods that are donated by local store owners. Auction these goods or services to members of BBYO and of the community.

Athletic Events #1 - Sponsor an athletic event where famous personalities play against the members. Charge admission or ask for donations. Have a snack bar or bake sale. This is where you will make a profit.

Athletic Events #2 - Have a Father-Son/Mother-Daughter athletic event or have AZA/BBG challenge the local temple Brotherhood/Sisterhood or B'nal B'rith Lodge/B'nai B'rith Women. Have a snack bar or bake sale. This is where you will make profit.

Athletic Events #3 - Have an Athletic Tournament. Invite other Chapters or local youth and charge an individual or team entry fee. Have a snack bar or bake sale. This is where you will make profit.

Bake Sale - Have the members of your chapters bake cookies, pies, cakes, brownies etc. Sell to the general public outside of a clothing shop or pharmacy or outside a temple or JCC during Hebrew School hours; make sure you have your venue approved. You can either price items individually or you can ask for donations and let them decide how good your cooking is; the latter method is more successful when you are selling to adults.

Battle of the Bands - Invite local bands to compete for the title of "Best Band In Town". Charge admission and invite the Region or the general community. Offer prizes for the winning band.

Bingo Party - Have a bingo party and offer prizes that were donated by the community. Charge per bingo card.

Bottle Drive - Collect deposit bottles. Give prizes to the individual who collects the most. Invite the general community and/or the Jewish community to drop off their bottles on a certain day. Take the bottles you collect to a supermarket or redemption center for the refund.

Box Dinner or Lunch - Each AZA makes a boxed lunch/dinner and then the BBG members bid on them, with the highest bidder getting the food and a date with the AZA cook. Before the bidding, announce the contents of the box but not the maker's name. Or have the BBG's make the boxed lunch/dinner and the AZA's bid on them.

Games Of Skill - Sponsor a game booth at your next community carnival. Get prizes donated and charge per toss or try.

Halloween Insurance - Offer Halloween Insurance door to door. If the house buys Insurance and someone vandolizes it (with toilet paper, shaving cream, or eggs), have members of the chapter clean it up the next day.

ISF-0-Grams - Make message forms for conventions and dances. Charge for each form and deliver them with a piece of candy or flower or read the messages out loud during a meal.

Jelly Bean Contest - Fill a jar full of Jelly beans and seal the lid. Keep a record of how many jelly beans you put In the jar, then offer guesses for a small fee. The person who guesses the exact number of jelly beans or is the closest wins the jar. This is great to do at Regional Conventions or Dances.
