Here are some of the more commonly asked questions about braces.
1. What do Braces Cost?
Due to the fact that there is a wide range of orthodontic problems, there is also a range of fees. Comprehensive orthodontic treatment will generally range from $3,900 to $6,000. Early interceptive treatments will cost much less.
2. Does it cost more for Cosmetic Braces than Metal Ones?
No, Dr. Kottemann has developed and patented a special plastic wire designed to go with the new clear braces. Because of his unique experience with these braces, there is not a cost difference. You may have heard of the invisible braces that go on the back side of the teeth. These are certainly available. There is additional time and cost involved in working with these lingual appliances.
3. If I get braces, what are some of the foods I need to avoid?
Orthodontic appliances and wires require a certain amount of care and respect, they may break if hard or sticky foods are eaten. Some of the foods to try to avoid are:
Ice, Nuts, Caramels
Taco Chips (corn chips)
Hard candy, Licorice
Regular Gum or Bubble Gum (only sugar free allowed)
Carrots, Apples and Raw Vegetables (unless cut in small pieces) (Funny, we don't get many complaints for this one)
"Old Maids" (popcorn is allowed, but not the "Old Maids")
