Ode to Phoenix
You came into my life a whisper;
One just barely heard.
You offered me a gift;
A gently spoken word.
You never made demands.
You took what I could give.
You let me break your heart;
And then you let me live.
When the whisper grew intense,
And soon became a roar,
We became consumed
As affection became more.
When love began to blossom
Deep within our heart,
We came to see the need
To live our lives apart.
A step not taken lightly,
But necessary, too;
Or else we would destroy
The best of me and you.
So now we are no longer
The love that once we were;
But the friendship that remains
Is one that will endure.
You came into my life a whisper;
One just barely heard;
And nestled in my life,
A gentle, caring bird.
