Kansas City, Mo- Chris Hallowell,5, was unintentionally shot and killed by his 10 year old brother at a relative's house. The boys were handling a semiautomatic handgun they found in their Uncle's bedroom closet, when the gun when off and struck Chris in the head. The brother dragged him to the front lawn screaming for help. Chris was pronounced dead at the hospital 30 minutes later. 7/15/98

West Patterson, NJ-Sean Harvey Jr. 16, was shot and killed by a man who mistakenly thought Sean was stealing a neighbor's car. Sean was shot in the head while riding away in a FRIEND'S car. The shooter had similiar prior offenses and was using an unlicensed handgun. 6/17/98

Saugus, MA-Brian Crowel, 12, was unintentionally shot and killed by his 14 year old friend. The friend was playing with his mother's handgun while Brian was talking o the phone. The friend thought he had taken out all of the bullets, but one wasleft in the chamber. He fired the handgun at Brian, and the bullet traveled through his neck inot his chest, tearing the large blood vessel. Brian died three hours later in the hospital. 12/25/97

Houston, TX-Amanda Cindy Garza, 15, died from a gunshot wound to the head after unintentionally shooting herself with a .357 revolver. Amanda found the gun in the back seat of the truck she was riding in with her friends. She was playing with the gun when it went off. The owner of the gun is unknown. 12/1/97

Ocala, FL-Jessie Dwayne Rogers, 10, and Amanda Rogers were playing Nintendo when their cousin unintentionally shot and killed them. The 17 year old cousin, who had completed an NRA hunter safety course, was babysitting them, when he discovered a High Point 9 mm semiautomatic pistol in the closet. He pulled back the clip and when he released it, the gun went off unexpectedly. The bullet passed through Jessie's head and lodged in Amanda's brain. Jessie died instantly and Amanda died later in the hospital. 11/23/97

Altoona, PA-Karissa Miller, 2, was untentionally shot and killed by a 7 year old boy. The boy discovered a key to his parent's 6-foot high gun cabinet, climbed on an ottoman to reach the key, opened that cabinet and retrieved a loaded rifle. He was playing with the rifle when it went off and shot Karissa in the abdomen, killing her instantly. 12/5/97

Staten Island, NY-Christopher Murphy, 11, son of two police officers, was unintentionally shot and killed by his 11 year old friend.The friend discovered the .22-caliber in his older brother's unlocked stereo cabinet; and as he was taking it out to show Christopher, he accidently shot Christopher in the face. 12/7/96

Oceanside, CA-Christopher David Holt, 4, unintentionally shot and killed himself with a .357 Magnum revolver. He discovered the pistol in a concealed compartment of the headboard of his Grandfather's bed.12/12/95

Canton, OH-Amanda Drukenbrod, 13, was shot and killed at home when a teenage boy came over to show off a handgun. He aimed it at a tree, but he accidently struck Amanda with a fatal shot to her leg.10/29/95

Provo, UT-Girl, 7, was accidentlly shot and killed as a bullet passed through her head. The girl's 11 year old brother found a .25 caliber pistol in the top of a kitchen cabinet. The brothyer was unaware there were bullets in the chamber, and pulled the trigger while inspecting the gun.11/15/96

Beaver, UT-Boy, 7, was shot and killed while his 11 year old brother was handling a 9 mm handgun. The boys found the gun in an unlocked safe, and when playing with the gun, it went off, striking the younger brother in the head.2/13/96

Pikesville, Ma-Adam Martinez, 21. These are his Aunts exact words on what happened to Adam that horrible day....... His day started normal....got together with friends and they were hanging out playing cards, from what I understand one friend was on the telephone talking to his girlfriend and sitting on Adams right at a picnic table. Another friend was sitting across from him. Mike the boy who shot him was on his left, there were two guns involved. One belonged to the boy on the telephone, the other Adam had brought, why we don't know. Adam had experience with guns and had taken safety courses so he new how to handle it. From the stories told, Adam had unloaded the gun and placed it on the table. The boy on the telephone said that Mike picked it up, loaded it, placed it near Adams head and pulled the trigger. He says Adam was lifted up off the seat and then he fell on his lap. We heard the 911 tapes, you can hear the boy telling Adam to hold on. I should tell you that the house they were at had two adults in the house, as well as several other children under the age of 13. On the 911 tapes, the mom is telling the operator that he is breathing but unconscious. This is where the story gets confusing....the operator asks who did it and the mom says Adam shot himself....(apparently that is what the boys told her). Once the father found out the kids had two guns, he made them go get the 2nd gun, which they had hidden down by the stream.....so apparently they had decided to run and hide the evidence. However, the police did ballistics tests and Adam did not have gunpowder residue on his hands so that the* he did it himself story* was false. All the boys were tested, and Mike had gun residue and was arrested. At the hospital there were many stories going around, one was that they were playing russian roulette, Adam shot himself, and it was an accident. We didn't know which story to believe, but the police got down to the truth eventually. It turns out Adam may have been trying to get his life together and was "talking" to a police officer and may have been going to turn in Mike for a robbery of a liquor store. However, none of the other boys there will tell the whole truth because they are afraid of this Mike. Apparently this Mike is threating their families and them. And since Mike shot another man and paralyzed him (btw, he shot this man in the head also) the boys are scared. Adam died at Johns Hopkins hospital on August 3, 1998 from a gun shot wound to the left side of his head. According to doctors the bullet passed straight thru his skull, bounced off the right side and spun in circles on the top of his head taking out too many nerves, and tissue to save his life. 8-30-98
