My cousin Geordi as honorary flower girl at my parents wedding on August 13, 1994.

My Guardian Angel

My birthday is a very happy and sad occasion for my Mommy and Daddy, on March 8, 1995, a year and one day before I was born, my 17 month old cousin Geordi Elizabeth Maybury died in Toronto's Sick Children's Hospital. She had surgery to correct a congenital heart condition and while it was a success, Geordi became very sick while she was recovering and after fighting phenomia, influenzia and a bowel infection her lungs gave out 17 days after her surgery.

Geordi was born on September 10, 1993. My Uncle Paul (who is my Godfather) and Aunt Liz Maybury have always been very proud of all that Geordi achieved. I know she was also very special to Mommy and Daddy because she was the honorary flower girl at their wedding in August of 1994.

Geordi is very special to me too because I believe she looks out for me and watches me from heaven, and I am sure she laughed when I threw up all over Uncle Paul when I was eight months old. She will always be missed and if I can't get to know her as my cousin physically, I will know her as my guardian angel.

I love you Geordi.

September 10, 1998, would have been cousin Geordi's fifth birthday. In honor of her memory, me, Mommy and Daddy got together with our friends Nancy and Steve Lomax (and their children Nicole, Karen and Sarah) to adopt an African Lion from the Toronto Zoo. Mommy even made a special adoption certificate for Uncle Paul and Aunt Liz to keep as a momento of our gift to Geordi. Geordi's name will go up on the Toronto Zoo's parent board for one year (1998-1999).

In Loving Memory: A short tribute to other special family members who are in God's company.
