Rated: R

This movie contains graphic violence, partial nudity, sexual content, and language. I would definately not recommend it to children.

Type: Action

Rating: ** (out of 5 stars)

The basic premise of "Starship Troopers" is this: Humans built a space colony on the edge of the "Bug System", which is inhabited by a race of large insect-like creatures. In revenge, the bugs knock an asteroid out of its path and send it careening towards Earth where it destroys the city of Buenos Aires. The army sends forces to stop the bugs, who turn out to be stronger than anticipated. The main characters in this movie are infantryman Johnny Rico, whose parents were killed in the asteroid collision, who joined the military to be with his girlfriend Carmen, who is a starship pilot. Johnny meets other infantry recruits such as Dizzy, who has had a crush on him for a long time. Meanwhile, Carmen and another pilot, Zander, begin to flirt a little. I gave this movie two stars because it is all action and special effects. The plot is cheesy and the acting is awful, and the action doesn't even kick off until the second half of the movie. It may be worth seeing for the action, however.
