The Thin Red Line

Type: War Drama

Rating: *** (out of 5 stars)

A lot of people go into "The Thin Red Line" expecting another "Saving Private Ryan", then leave disappointed. This movie is about the invasion of Guadalcanal in World War II. However, there are very few scenes of intense action or excitement. A lot of the movie is merely the soldiers' reactions to the war... either thoughts or flashbacks. It's also three hours long. Personally, I thought there were a few cool scenes (and the cinematography is pretty good), but the rest wasn't too great and got really boring after awhile. A lot of people I've talked to share my opinion, but some people say that it's an outstanding movie. Therefore, I've given it three stars because people either love it or hate it. Another note: the commercials for this movie boasted of an all-star cast, but George Clooney, Woody Harrelson, John Travolta, and John Cusack had VERY brief roles. The only two well-known main characters were Sean Penn and Nick Nolte.
