Star Trek: Insurrection

Type: Sci-fi

Rating: **1/2 (out of five stars)

"Star Trek: Insurrection" was directed by Jonathan Frakes (who plays Commander William Riker), and, frankly, it's not all that good. It turns out that the Federation has made a deal with the evil Son'a race that will involve stealing the life-giving energy that emanates from a remote planet. The planet's residents, the Ba'ku, are to be secretly herded into a ship that contains a hologram version of their world and relocated. When Captain Picard's crew finds out about this, they go against the actions of the Son'a and the Federation in order to save the Ba'ku and the planet. Despite some ok action and pretty decent effects, this movie seems unimportant compared to the other two movies of "Next Generation" series... it involves saving one sparsely-populated planet, not earth or entire planets. "Insurrection" often moves slowly, as well and is also peppered with Star Trek jokes that I found annoying. If you're a dedicated Star Trek fan, you'll want to see this; otherwise, skip it.
