Cleopatra's debut single "Cleopatra's Theme" was released
on June 16 , 1998 and is featured on their debut album
"Comin' Atcha" , which was released on June 30 ,1998 .
Their debut single debuted on Billboards Top 100 Singles 8
weeks ago at #26 , and currently holds position 33 .
Cross the Spice Girls with Hanson and you get Cleopatra ,
a teen trio from Manchester , England comprised of three
sisters-- Zainam 17 , Yonah 14 and Cleopatra 16 , who wrote
and assumed vocal duties on all of their songs . Inspired
by everything from gospel to trip-hop to classic soul , the
trio signed to Madonna's Maverick label .
Cleopatra hail from the Moss Side district of Manchester
and were raised by their mom , a former session singer. The
house was filled with music , and the girls grew up listen-
ing to everything from Raggae to Mariah Carey ! From early
on , it was clear that the Higgins' girls not only had
talent , but perhaps more importantly , truly wanted to
perform . And they had a particularly gifted songwriter ,
in the middle child Cleopatra ,who claims that the process
of creating a hit "comes very naturally to me. "
Not surprisinggly , Mom noticed her daughters' musical
abilities early on . After all it was hard not to . "We
used to sing and dance around our bedroom so much that our
Mum said 'you should be in a group!'" laughs Zainam .
After six long years of hard work and end less touring ,
along with the constant guidance and nuturing of both their
mother and Errol & Tony , Cleopatra were ready to go for a
record deal . In early 1997 , the sisiters were auditioning
a capella in the offices of Warner Bros. UK and were offered
a record contract on the spot .
In no time , the thee sisters, with the Arican names and
trademark braids were heralded by the notoriously fickle
British press as a potent musical force to be reckoned with
and compared favorably with such pop sensations as Musical
Youth , Five Star and the Jackson 5 .
Look for Cleopatra in a upcoming Disney special on the
inaugral voyage of Disney's new cruise ship . Cleopatra will
be shown performing , scubdiving , jet-skiing and playing
volleyball . The special will air on the Disney Channel
