Since his retirement in 2010, he has been working full time on the Stafford County Civil War Park Project. A VMI graduate with a professional career in Missile Operations and Strategic Policy, Glenn has spent over 35 years searching for, identifying and collecting Civil War artifacts. Glenn's presentation will focus on what has been accomplished in Stafford County thru the efforts of the FSCWS. Here is a short YouTube vidio called "Stafford Civil War Park" you might like to see before the meeting. I look forward to learning about Stafford county and what is being done there to preserve Civil War artifacts. RCWRT's Annual Dinner Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 On Tuesday, November 12, the RCWRT's annual dinner meeting will again be held at the Willow Oaks Country Club thanks to the efforts of several of our members. We are very fortunate to have Dr. George Kirsch, Professor of History Emeritus at Manhattan College as our speaker. Dr. Kirsch is a nationally recognized expert on sports history. He will be speaking about his highly acclaimed book, Baseball in Blue and Gray: The National Pastime During the Civil War. The evening will begin with a reception at 6:00 PM. Willow Oaks CC will be serving the same excellent buffet dinner as last year. Dinner will be at 7:00 PM. We are also able to keep the same dinner price as last year. The ticket price per person will be $32.00 for members and their spouses/dates. The cost for guests who would like to attend, but are not members of the RCWRT will be $35.00 per person. Beer, wine, cocktails and soft drinks will be available at the reception. We expect an enthusiastic response to our annual event. We must confirm our dinner count early, so please make your reservations now. If you receive the newsletter by (snail) mail then the last page is your printed form. University of Richmond class "Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley" The Shenandoah Valley was the "breadbasket of the Confederacy" and served as an avenue of invasion for both the Federal and Confederate armies during the war. Led by Jack Mountcastle, this non-credit course is scheduled for 7-9 PM on four Monday evenings beginning on October 14th. The class will review Stonewall Jackson's fascinating Valley Campaign, the impacts of war on the civilian population of the Valley, and the summer campaign of 1864, during which the Shenandoah Valley was seized by Federal forces. The course concludes with a bus tour of selected battlefields of the 1862 and 1864 campaigns on Saturday, November 9th. To enroll, just pick up a registration form at the September meeting.
