Atlanta Braves' hitting instructor Don Baylor has made contact with former Braves' front office
man Dean Taylor, who is now in Milwaukee as general manager, about the managerial opening with
the Brewers.
Baylor said he spoke with Taylor on September 21st in Atlanta right as Taylor was named the
general manager in Milwaukee. Since then it is believed that they have spoken at least five times.
Baylor denied two reports - one saying that he had no interest in Milwaukee because of what he
believed was an "insincere" interview with Sal Bando in 1991 right before Bando hired ex-Brewers
manager Phil Garner, and the second saying that he had made an oral agreement to manage the
Chicago Cubs next season.
Atlanta general manager John Schuerholz said he would not give permission to any other team
to talk with Baylor while the Braves are still in the playoffs.
It is believed that Milwaukee is also interested in the service of Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Sr.,
Davey Lopes of San Diego, and Arizona coach Carlos Tosca.
