Just an article of interest. After all the talk we hear about homeschooled kids needing "socialization", here is a school which proposes (now sit down!) one-on-one attention! Well, what goes around comes around I guess. In this case, it's one of the beauties of homeschooling that this charter school is really seeking.

This site, from the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology, chronicles the history of keeping time, from ancient calendars to atomic clocks. These web pages will help you find out the basic facts of any state in the Union, including Washington, D.C. Need to know the capital of Alabama? Want to know which hockey teams are in California? How about the size of Montana? All that information is here -- and more! There's also charts of state rankings -- comparison of size and population, the dates each state entered the union, capitals, largest cities, birds, and flowers.

Pop quiz: what do you call that fuzzy ball on the top of a knit hat? How about the implement wielded by a cheerleader? To most of us, they are both "pompoms," but to traditionalists they are "pompons," spelled the way the French -- who gave us the word -- spell it. A pompom, say these purists, is only a sort of large gun. Though you're unlikely to bother many people by falling into the common confusion, you can show off your education by observing this distinction, and hundreds of others!

How Your Heart Works

About a hundred times a minute, 100,000 times a day, 36.5 million times a year, your heart keeps the beat... the beat of life. That familiar thump, thump, thump tells you that your heart is doing its job pumping blood from the veins to the heart and lungs, where it is replenished with oxygen and then distributed back to the body through the arteries." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
