WELCOME! TO MY I came to Al-Anon in 1990 because I was sitting in a nut ward and I was the only sane person there. Never mind that I would not eat or drink anything, and would not talk to anyone! I was completely fine, nothing wrong with me! I was in complete denial of all my problems. Today I live in reality and enjoy life and it is because of Al-Anon and AA. I was not going to be the first one in my family to receive treatment for alcoholism, I was not the only one who drank. Thank God for the people in Al-Anon who showed me that I was the problem and that I could do nothing about anyone else's behavior except my own. I still attend meetings today. ACA and Al-Anon taught me that I got sick without ever taking a drink and showed me how to detach from the behavior of others by working the 12 steps of Al-Anon. At meetings I received the unconditional love I had to have to recover. I had to find out that my self esteem could not be built on other people's opinion of me. Until I had myself for a friend, friendships with others proved to be impossible. I have an AA page too; so do not be afraid to hear that side of my story. For those who say they cannot be affected by another person's drinking...these are characteristics of being brought up in an alcoholic home.
