Janus was once an ordinary boy. (Doesn't that sound like a section out of Chrono Trigger? cough) Then one day, driving along, poor Janus got into a car accident. (Doesn't this sound like a section out of Saga Frontier? cough)He was found, barely alive and in, er, poor-shape (read, he was about hamburger meat at that point) and was dragged back to his finder's lab in Heaven Sent Industries. (Janus doesn't know that it was indeed Heaven Sent.) Unfortunately -- or more likely, deliberately -- the finder, who was a specialist in adjusting human bodies with mechanical parts to make them 'androids', was specialized in female bodies. Janus didn't precisely lose his manhood -- all the parts are in their right spots, but he woke up to find himself with silky-smooth skin, beautiful (and uncuttable) long ice-white hair, longer legs and wider hips and thinner waist than he was used to. Janus was now even prettier and more effeminate than Nikki.

Janus ran for it. He was not stupid, and figured out pretty damn quickly what KIND of android he'd expect to be, with a physical appearance like that.

Later, he met Ranith and after a brief period of feirce battle, befriended her in a teacher-to-student manner. It helped that Ranith had been trained by the cat-woman who had once been his lover. (This catwoman was in the freak show Ranith was in and was beaten to death in front of Ranith's eyes, which is when her energy abilities manifested) Janus's hobby's now tracking down anyone connected with his lover's death and killing them brutally. (EVERYONE needs a hobby.)

It was Janus who got Ranith into the line of work she's in... he himself works for the 'employers', specializing in surveillance and infiltration, breaking and entering, but isn't much for the wetwork (murder) -- that's Ranith's role.

He works at a flower shop under the name Hikage Hyoga, which can be difficult as, with his computer-augmented brain, he can do higher math with no difficulty but can't count to save his life.

Oh, another interesting dilemma -- he has a little 'friend' in his head. Janus once downloaded something into his brain that may or may not have been a virus, but is an AI who won't go away, called LINX. (Why is it capitalized? To quote a discussion between them: I am an operating system. "Hey! I I don't have a capital name, and I operate!" Barely.) LINX is a smartass and frequently irritates Janus, who is very easily distracted by discussions with LINX. However, he can meld (briefly) with LINX to gain twice as many actions and see everything as a mecha would, upping the power of his sensors mightily. He can also set LINX a task while doing something else. They're basically like an old husband-wife couple -- they argue constantly but wouldn't give each other up even if they could.

And poor Janus is cursed. Literally. He doesn't know who did it, but it's cruel. He has a constantly mistaken gender, even when he isn't present. Someone (for example, Ranith) who knows perfectly well that he's a boy, will still pronounce his name in the feminine, 'Jeanice', without intending to. Worse, he makes a very beautiful girl, and has a phobia of being hit on by guys, something which was taken from a minor sqvich in his normal life to an actual PHOBIA when he found out he was to be a pleasure slave.

Oh, and as to how he heals damage done to the robotic portions of his body? Two words: Toaster ovens.
