A review of the Black Box, Galway concert: (This link will be working soon)
Since the 12th Jan 1999
After a wonderful concert(read the review) in which the microphone was
thrown my way twice, we're finally sitting backstage with Alan, Niall,
Adam and Glen.
We walk in the door, and Alan greets me with a big
"Hey its you! Not you again!!!"
After re-introductions, hugs and kisses, its time to start the interview.
ALAN: Ok, we've only got 10 minutes, so you1ve got to be really really
quick or else we1ll have to kick you out really really quick.
(Some chatting follows, including us telling OTT about Marie's baby
sister who could do the "Let Me In" Dance at age 1 ! Adam response is
that it is " Pretty easy, isn1t it?"
Alan also tells me that my clothes were really cool ! (I was wearing
jeans with bleached white bits at the bottom, {which he asked if I
would swap for his!}and black velvet hippy style top with flowers on
it) Thanks for the compliment Alan! )
ALAN: (Pulls out 2 chairs)Now girls, sit down there, sit your weary
bones down there and relax, and we1ll stand!!
Ok, Lads, we all know you, but introduce yourselves anyway!
ALAN: Hi, I'm Alan, and I'm one person from OTT.
NIALL: Hi, I'm Niall.
GLEN: I'm Glen
ADAM: And I'm Adam.
Q1. ITS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE ANYONE IN IRELAND HAS HEARD FROM YOU
GUYS. WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?
NIALL: We've been touring over in Asia. We got back from Asia in
March. Then we started the Disney roadshow, and we finished that a
couple of months ago. We1ve been recording new material, and now we1re
back out on the road.
ADAM: We were doing different festivals as well over in England

Q2. SO YOU'RE BACK NOW WITH A NEW SINGLE, " ONLY ONE GIRL ON MY MIND".
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE BEATEN ALL YOUR OBSTACLES, AND MANAGED TO
COME BACK AGAIN?
ALAN: Its just great.
GLEN: Its nice...em... it takes a lot of ...em.. (at this stage Adam
is mouthing something to Glen, but he can't pick up on what it is!)
Persistence? ...Deliberation..?
ADAM: (interupting) DETERMINATION!
(everyone starts laughing...and saying things like :That's what it was!)
One of their promoters walks into the room.
NIALL: And then you meet the right promoters, you know, and you decide
to get something together.
ADAM: (looking straight at the promoter) But that hasn't happened yet,
so......!
(Followed by lots of laughter!)
At this stage, Niall introduces us to Eoin, their promoter.
ADAM: It feels great..it feels great that we still have the support and
everything, and people still remember us, and stuff like that, so, Its
cool.

Q.3. WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
ADAM: For me, it was our trip to Asia, I love it over there.
ALAN: Mine was out first time ever on Top Of the Pops.
NIALL: Mine is yet to come!
ALAN: Glen! Whats your answer? Glen got his hair done in dreadlocks!
GLEN: The highlight of my career was ..em..
Us: The highlights in your hair?
GLEN: Its was em..when we had our Holidays, that was good, cause he
hadn1t had any holidays in ages so..
ALAN: (Interuppting) What holidays?
GLEN: We had holidays there a while ago, so that was good, and also, I
liked ....em ....
ADAM: Okayyy (in an I think we should tak the next question style !!!!!)

Q.4. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE SO MANY GIRLS SCREAMING AT YOU ALL OF THE
TIME?
NIALL: Where?
Us : (in disgust) Out THERE!
ALAN: Its great! Its great since we started 3 years ago, you know--its
very flattering and all that--We won't say no!
ADAM: Its like, when we on stage, and they1re screaming and all that,
we get the vibes back from them and we throw more out, so we perform
even better, so its good that way.
NIALL: The louder the crowd are, the better we perform.
US: Was it a loud crowd tonight?(In Galway1s Black Box)
All Together: It was.
ADAM: For such a small one, they were a loud crowd.
(I then apologised for the size of the Galway crowd..and point out
that I bought my ticket on the first day, so I can1t be blamed!)

Q.5. HOW MANY DRINKS DOES IT TAKE TO GET YOU DRUNK?
(Loud laughter from all around)
GLEN: It depends on what your drinking!
ALAN: I like drinking Bulmers, so I can drink 15 pints of Bulmers
and I won't be drunk.
ADAM: Yeah, right.
ALAN: But If I'm drinking Jack Daniels.......
NIALL: There's children going to be listening to this!
(We reassured them that its not live and in audio sound, just typed
out.)
ALAN: (Trying again) But if I drink, em...
(is interrupted once again)
ALAN: (Quickly) I can hold my gargle really well!
ADAM: I'm not very good at holding my drink, I have to say. One or 2
and I'm gone, you know.
( The others start to laugh and snort at this)
US: Does that mean he's lying?
ADAM: No!
ALAN: Yeah!
ADAM: (all defensive) (To the others) No... You KNOW I go to bed early
when I'm on the road.
The others all admits it: He Does.
GLEN: We all like our drink , you know! We're Irish!
ALAN: We like to have a few gargles after a night..
everyone starts to talk together and Glen tries to get his bit in..
GLEN:-"I'm not finished yet"
"I just wana..."
"If you'd just let me.."
Ok..Sorry! Speak Glen!
GLEN: After the gig, we just have to wind down, or we'd never get to
sleep! So We have a couple of pints, and an old chat, and talk about
what went right and what went right.
ALAN: And thats it
GLEN: And then, go to bed.
ALAN: Yeah
GLEN: So its nice and relaxing, you know.

Q.6 HAVE YOU EVER LIED TO GET YOUR WAY WITH THE OPPOSITE SEX?
They all start saying sarcastically "Nooooo" and 'Neeeeverr!'
NIALL: Yes - I am an astronaut!
GLEN: (sarcastically)I believe everything I say!
ALAN: I"m this big film producer, come back to me!
GLEN: A fireman usually does it!
Sinéad: I read that you say you pump up basketballs for adidas or
something???
ADAM: That's right, and also when we go away, and we don't want people
to know who we are we say we1re a bobsleigh team from Ireland!
us:Glen's dreadlocks might do it now, you know!

Q.7. HAVE YOU EVER HAD A DREAM ABOUT ANYONE FAMOUS?
NIALL: I had a dream last week about Faye out of Steps, (The one with
the dreadlocks).
GLEN: Alan always dreams about Jo Brand.
ALAN: Oh yeah, she's gorgeous!
ADAM: In the very beginning, when we had to share rooms and all that,
he (Alan) used to have conversations in his sleep with Peter Andre
and 911.
ALAN: Yeah, just conversations with the Spice Girls, and everyone!
ADAM: He'd be there like 'Howaya Peter'and stuff like that!
ADAM: Whatever happened to Peter Andre?
Sinéad: He put his coat back on and that was it!

Q.8. HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT DOING YOUR COSMO PICTURE SHOOT? (For those
of you who don't know, they appeared, with just flowers covering their
bits)
ADAM: (Straight away) HORRIBLE!
ALAN: I'd do it again--but without the flowers this time!
us: Were you MADE do it?
NIALL: No, We wanted to do it. The only person who didn't want to do it
was Adam. The rest of us loved getting in the nude!
Sinéad: mmm hmm
Marie: I'm happy for you....
(One of us quickly changed the subject by commenting on the tour poster
and Adam offers to give us one!)
ALAN: Ok, next question!

Q.8. HAS THE ATMOSPHERE IN THE BAND CHANGED SINCE KEITH LEFT?
ALAN: WHAT????????
Sinéad: O.k, I know this was a loooooooooonnnng time ago, but I haven't
seen yez since then.
NIALL: Yeah. There are no fights anymore!
ADAM: Well, no I mean when Keith left it was like..It was happening
over a while--we were performing as 4 before he actually left, so there
was no huge change when he actually finally left. It was always the
4 of us performing anyway.
