Charles King (Charles Jean-Baptiste Roy) was born November 05, 1783, in Saint Francois, Du Sud, Montmagny, Quebec, the son of John King (Jean-Baptiste Roy) and Marie Therese Gagnon. He married Marie Louise Favreau and raised at least nine children: Joseph King (Joseph Roy), Rosalie King (Rosalie Roy), John King (Jean-Baptiste Roy), Mary King (Marie Roy), Charles King (Charles Roy), William August King (Guillaume Augustin Roy), Peter King (Pierre Roy), Boswell King (Bazile Roy), and Mary Julie King (Marie Julie Roy). Peter and William are pictured below. |
In 1889, at the age of 105 (?) years old, Charles was given a gold headed cane in Boston for being the oldest man alive in America. The photograph on the left above was taken at that time. He died May 15 1891, in Middleton, Massachusetts, at the age of 107 years, and is buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Danvers, Massachusetts. His headstone above states that he was 110 years old when he died. However, I have information which states that Charles was born in 1783, which would make him 107 years old when he died. |
