Childhood Memories

Summertime has left me
Pondering in the wintery
landscape; watching children playing in the snow

I sit and I watch them now
Wishing that I could somehow
Be the child that I was before

Building snowmen; having fun
Jump in snowdrifts; watch them run
Sliding on the icy winter street

Snowball fights; sled down hills
Remember all those winter thrills
I think I'll go and join in on their fun

I go to them; they look at me
Begin to laugh; it is funny
A man who wants to join in childish games

Suddenly it seems so wrong
Because it has been so long
Since I was a child just like them

So I turn and walk away
And leave the children there to play
Only one thought, now, is on my mind

That it won't return to me
That child that I used to be
Forever gone; lost now in the past

All now that is left to do
Is watch the children running through
The winter snows; wishing I could too
