One of the most enjoyable events for me at the park are the
ranger talks which are scheduled daily. There are usually at least three talks
scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes there is a bonus talk scheduled
near the end of the day. They take place at various locations around the park--
on the north patio at the visitor center, at the flagpole, at the Cabrillo
statue and in front of the lighthouse. Schedules times are posted in the
visitor center. However, listen for the announcements or inquire at the
information desk in the visitor center for latest updates. Most presentations
last approximately 20 minutes. |

One talk per day is scheduled to be on the flora native to the
San Diego coastline. This talk is almost a "scratch n sniff"
presentation as the ranger gives you bits of the leaves of the sage to rub
between your fingers to fully appreciate the aromas they give off. They smell
wonderful... and they made me hungry for either roast turkey or porkchops! :) |

One presentation per day is scheduled around Juan Cabrillo--
whether it be about navigation or armament and weapons. |

Without argument, the most popular presentation is about the
lighthouse. This presentation takes place in front of the lighthouse and is
always well-attended. Every ranger has their own emphasis for their talk, so it
always is fresh and interesting. By the way, be prepared for the pop quizzes! |

Topics change from time to time. There are sometimes talks
about the military history of San Diego or other subjects. |
