Red Tailed HawkOne of the most popular tourist spots in San Diego is Cabrillo National Monument (CNM). The monument is, in fact, one of the most visited locations in the National Park System. The views at the Point are spectacular. Back in November, 1999, a red-tailed hawk was lurking around the lighthouse.

The Monument has a number of features throughout the year that make it a very special place to visit. We are now in the middle of the Pacific gray whale migration season. Whales have been spotted nearly daily since the week between Christmas and New Years. January 20 and 21, 2001 (Saturday and Sunday) will be the special whale-watching event of the season. The Park has a number of special activities planned for all who visit the site. And, best of all, weather permitting, you will probably be able to see whales.

November through April is also the season for seeing the critters up close and personal in the tidepool area at the foot of the monument. The best time to visit is the days nearest a full or new moon for lowest tides.
