Another Stop On Mike Nelson's Virtual Tour of San Diego
Cabrillo National Monument -- The View!!!

In my opinion, no other location in metro San Diego provides as spectacular a view as those from Cabrillo Monument. To the west, the Pacific Ocean stretches to the horizon. To the south, you can see the Coronado Islands 18 miles away. To the north, you can see Mount Palomar on a clear day. But it is the view to the East that is absolutely stunning. On a clear day, you can see the Cuyamaca and Laguna mountains--over 40 air miles away!

Here is a panoramic view of San Diego from the Navy submarine base to Tijuana, Mexico. This picture was taken in September, 1998, and is a series of 6 pictures stitched together. This is a typical view from the Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo statue--including the typical Southern California haze.
