Another Stop On Mike Nelson's Virtual Tour of San Diego

JV Sign at Night

For several years, I've been grabbing a lot of lunches at JV's Taco Shop in the Morena Furniture District--only minutes away from Sea World San Diego. The food is great. Service is always prompt. And it's great being greeted by name whenever you visit. Jessie, Lettie, Memo, Julio and jose are all friendly and there are usually a lot of customers in the store.

But, of course, the most important thing about any restaurant is the food! And JV's food is delicious and plentiful but very modestly priced. In addition to the usual tacos and burritos, JV's offers a lot of things that you don't find at most Mexican restaurants. Most Mexican fastfood restaurants charge you for hot carrots and jalapeño peppers--but not JV's. In fact, you serve yourself and they also have a self-serve bar for their tasty salsa--fresh tomatos with cilantro, onions and garlic. The bar also features both red (roja) and green (verde) sauces. For drinks, they have the usual carbonated sodas along with jamaica (my favorite) and horchata.
