I like just about everything on the menu, but these are my favorites:
- Carne Asada Burrito. Memo tells me that this is the
most popular item on the menu.
- El Pastor Burrito.A BBQ pork with guacamole &
salsa fresca.
- The California Quesadilla--a flour torilla stuffed
with jack cheese, tomato, mushrooms, beans, guacamole and green ortega
peppers.
- Tex-Mex Wet Burrito--Be sure to order this one with
extra enchilada sauce!!
- Steak Bistek Ranchero--a spicy stew made with beef
and special spices. It includes sides of rice and beans, corn or flour
tortillas and guacamole and sour cream. This is a HUGE meal!
One of the most popular items on the menu is the "Surf and
Turf" burrito. It's a HUGE burrito simply stuffed with
shrimp, carne asada, rice and guacamole. I've never been able to eat one
in a single sitting.
One of my favorite items on the menu are the ground beef or cheese
enchiladas. The mild enchilada sauce is tasty without being heavy. I
have to be careful with these because they are so delicious that it is
tempting to inhale them. :)
I've been trying some of the other items on the menu. Here are some
quickie reviews:
- 6 Rolled Tacos. This is a tasty treat--and a real value at
$1.99. You get 6 crisp rolled corn tortillas stuffed with ground beef
topped off with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole & sour cream.
- Chicken Soup. A medley of eight or more vegetables including
broccoli, corn, 3 kinds of beans and more with large chunks of chicken.
Served with a side of rice, onions, cilantro and corn or flour
tortillas.
- Shrimp soup. Like the chicken soup but served with lots of
shrimp. Memo says that this is one of his favorites... but I like the
chicken soup better since I'm really not a fish or seafood fan.
- Breakfast Burrito Grande. Scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes,
beans and cheese in a LARGE flour tortilla. This is not just for
breakfast.
- Red Chile Burrito. A mild burrito stuffed with your choice of
beef, chicken, bean or pork (I chose beef), onions, cilantro, tomatoand
red sauce.Julio recommended this one--and it was a great choice.
- Carne Asada Nachos. Lots of tortilla chips covered with nacho
cheese, jalapenos, sour cream and guacamole.Three
- Tacos De Adobada.BBQ Pork tacos with quacamole, onion and
cilantro. This is one of the sleepers on the menu. A very pleasant
surprise. These have a bit of a zing to wake you up but are light and
satisfying.
Lastly, you won't find this one on the menu but it's really special:
Carne Asada Burrito Caliente. Jessie and the gang
invented this one just for me. It's $2.50 and it's huge... and it's great.
It's no ordinary burrito. It's a carne asada burrito with the addition of
the same spices used in the steak bistek ranchero. MMMMmmmm mmmm Yum!!!
You can find JV's Taco Shop at the corner of Old Morena Blvd &
Buenos in the Morena Furniture District. The address is 1112 Morena Blvd
