Terror In The Skies

Living here in the Texas Panhandle I am considered to be right in the middle
of tornado alley so I just felt it appropriate to put up a page dedicated
to the season that affects all of our lives here in this part of the world.

Below is the Fujita Scale that will tell you a little bit about the differences
in tornadoes that we experience here and then following that are some pictures
I took of the F4 tornado that tore through this little town I call home.

F0 known as a Gale Tornado with winds of 40-72 mpg. You can expect some
damage to chimneys, breaking branches off of tree's, pushing over shallow
rooted trees and damage to sign boards.

F1 known as a Moderate Tornado with winds of 73-112 mpg. The lower limit
is the beginning of hurricane wind speed, peels surface off of roofs, mobile
homes pushed off foundations or overturned, moving autos pushed off the roads,
attached garages may be destroyed.

F2 is known as a Significant Tornado with winds of 113-157 mph. There will
be considerable damage. Roofs torn off frame houses, mobile homes demolished,
box cars pushed over, large tree's snapped or uprooted, light object missiles
generated.

F3 is known as a Severe Tornado with winds of 158-206 mpg. Roofs and some
walls torn off well constructed houses, trains overturned, most tree's uprooted.

F4 is known as a Devastating Tornado with winds of 207-260 mph. Well constructed
houses leveled, structures with weak foundations blown off some distance,
cars thrown and large missiles generated.

F5 is known as a Incredible Tornado with winds of 261-318 mpg. Strong frame
houses lifted off foundations and carried considerable distances to disintegrate,
automobile sized missiles fly through the air in excess of 100 meters, tree's
debarked, steel reinforced structures badly damaged.
