Oracle Corporation.

In September 1997 (1997-09), after separating from the Air Force, I was hired by Oracle.

I had put my resume out on On-Line Career Center (occ.com) which is now Monster.com. It was picked up by a recruiter in Boston and eventually I was hired on by the Columbus, Ohio office of Oracle State and Local. Right off, I was on the plane up to Detroit and working as the Busniess Systems Analyst for the Payroll Team. Looking back, I wish I'd been able to go out to HR bootcamp in California first. The extra training would have been a nice bonus. As it was, I never did get out to the new complex out at Redwood Shores.

I had a variety of assignments and I traveled much more with Oracle than I did with the Air Force.
  • City Of Detroit - Detroit Resource Management System (DRMS)
  • Detroit, MI
    (1997-09 to 1998-02)
  • State of Michigan - Family Independence Agency (formerly the Department of Social Services)
  • Lansing, MI
    (1998-04 to 1998-05)
  • L-3 Communications
  • Camden, NJ
    (1998-05)
  • Tele Communications, Inc (TCI)
  • Denver, CO
    (1998-06 to 1998-07)
  • Department of the Army - Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM)
  • Picatinny Arsenal, NJ (near Newark)
    (1998-07)
  • City Of Detroit - Detroit Resource Management System (DRMS)
  • Detroit, MI
    (1998-08 to 1999-01)
In between assignements, I was on the bench, or on the beach, as we called it. I did some non-billable tasks: going to a few RFP meetings and helping out at the Ohio Department of Education with SchoolNet. I also went back to Lansing, MI for a week to help with internal audits of the Michigan FIA.

I attended three training classes while with Oracle:
    • Introduction to Oracle Human Resources Management System, 24 hours
    • Oracle Payroll, 16 hours
    • Oracle HRMS Advanced Elements and FastFormula Release 11, 40 hours
There is only so much time you can be on the bench and sadly, I was let go in June 1999 (1999-06).... It was hectic from time to time. We were well into the process of our adoption. But everything did work out after all.
