US Air Force.

On 4 January 1989, I enlisted in the US Air Force. It was a Wednesday.

Like all enlistees, I went to basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. It's down on the south central area of San Antonio, Texas. I was in the 3701st BMTS (Basic Military Training Squadron).

My technical training was at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Keesler is down near Biloxi, between the Gulf of Mexico and Biloxi Bay. The weather was constantly changing. This is where I met Ken one of my very good friends.

My first and only assignment was to Randolph AFB, Texas again in San Antonio, this time up on the far northeast side of the city. I was stationed at what is now AFPC for my entire career.

I worked on four different programming projects over the years:
  • The PROcurement Management Information System (PROMIS) used by HQ Recruiting Service
  • The Air Force Officer Qualification Test (AFOQT) Scoring System used by the Personnel Testing Branch
  • Processing And Classification of Enlistees (PACE) used by the 3507th Airman Classification Sqdn at Lackland AFB
  • MILMOD - AFPC's military modernization effort to go from Honeywell database and mainframes to Oracle client server (This included my office's initial effort to convert PROMIS into an Oracle stand alone system)

I reenlisted in 1992 and finally separated in 1997.

I went on terminal leave on 13 August 1997.

My final day was 14 October 1997: 8 years, 9 months and 11 days.
