Those two set of issues released on the same date are covered by two different cachets: Georges Eppstadt of Maxville, Ontario and Century Stamps of Montreal. Even though, cachets are known for Canadian First day Covers dating as far back as the 1897 Victoria Jubilee, the Eppstadt (and Century Stamps) covers are the first commercial cachets ever produced in Canada.
In 1927 Georges Eppstadt, owner of a General Store in Maxville Ontario, ordered 1000 envelopes to be printed with the cachet you see on this page. Only a fraction of these would ever become First day Covers, making 500 -700 the estimated total of Eppsdat FDCs ever produced. This was Eppstadt only cachet. Eppsdadt FDCs generally retail for $100 to $150 (CAD) and can occasionally be bought at Auctions for about half that price. Considering the significance, the attractiveness and rarity of those covers, they are a true bargain. They are underpriced. The American equivalent, the Linn Cachet of Harding issue of 1920 typically retail at over 10 times that price!
Considerably more rare than the Eppstadt Cachet is the Century Stamp Cachet. It is far less attractive but considering that probably less than 100 were ever produced, it is guarantee to elude most collections.
The Author of these pages is interested in acquiring the "Century Stamps" cachet (and other Cachets he doesnt own) for his collection. He has also a number of interesting FDCs and other materials for sale (or trade). Please contact at mr_fdc@geocities.com
