Well, here are a few updates to the Canadian PJ scene...
29 June 2003 - Pearl Jam to play Montreal at the Bell Centre.
28 June 2003 - Pearl Jam to play Toronto at the Molson Amphitheatre
30 May 2003 - Pearl Jam to play Vancouver at GM Place.
17 June 2001? - For Toronto radio listeners, Q107 will be airing a Pearl Jam show from London, circa 1993, at 10:00 PM EDT, this coming Sunday.
10/11 May 2001 - MuchMusic will be airing footage from the just-released but tragically titled Pearl Jam DVD/VHS cassette, Touring Band 2001. Footage begins at 9:00 pm EDT May 10th, followed by a repeat airing at midnight, May 10th/really early in the morning on May 11th. The show will only last an hour. Gee, that's great -- footage from something we already have, and at that it's only 1/3 of the entire show. Nice.
11 April 20001 - According to Synergy, Pearl Jam will be releasing a DVD containing some 3 hours or so of footage from the 2000 tour. Cool. Extras include the "Matt-cam" on a few songs, possibly some biographies and such. A VHS version will also be available, but who knows what that will feature.
27 March 2001 - The next round of official Pearl Jam bootlegs are set to be released into stores on February 27, with online orders being taken at tenclub.net at the end of January. The second leg of the North American tour, featuring the 2000 Toronto show and the 2000 Montreal show (which for some reason I never did a page on), is slated for release into stores in March, with an online release at the end of February.
5 Oct 2000 - Pearl Jam plays the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster on 15 May 2000.
4 Oct 2000 - Pearl Jam plays Molson Centre in Montreal. Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster on 15 May 2000.
16 May 2000 - Pearl Jam's sixth studio album, Binaural will be released, much to my chagrin. To check out the tracklist, head to The Rumor Pit at Synergy. To view the package art, check out Synergy's opening page. If you're not sure what binaural means, check out Tchad Blake's site for more info. And have fun wandering around Blake's hopelessly bizarre site. The original release date was pegged at May 23, but for some reason it was pushed up a week. Check out the official stuff at Synergy.
11 May 2000 - In what may be the most amazing piece of Canadian Pearl Jam news since the advent of the Cheese Puppet, Canoe.ca reports that Pearl Jam will be playing the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver two weeks before the release of their new album, Binaural. There are only going to be 900 tickets to this show, and they will all be given away by the Vancouver radio station CFOX. Amazing! That's even before the European tour! Vancouver tapers, do your stuff!
25 April 2000 - 'Nothing As it Seems', the first single from the upcoming album Binaural, will be released to a waiting public to much fanfare. The b-side, the previously unheard 'Insignificance', will also be featured on the album. To check out the single's cover art, head to the Rumor Pit.
12 April 2000 - The Canoe article also mentions that Pearl Jam is playing The Late Show With David Letterman to celebrate his 53rd birthday. 'Nothing As It Seems' will likely get the go-ahead to promote the new single.
11 April 2000 - The first single to the upcoming album Binaural will be released to the radio, featuring 'Nothing As It Seems', first heard at last year's Bridge School benefit.
1 & 2 March 2000 - MuchMoreMusic is airing the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert at 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM EST on the first and at 12:00 PM on the second. The show includes 'Masters Of War' as performed by Mike 'n' Ed.
If you've been listening Toronto radio lately, you may have heard of Q107's Millenium 500 list. It's basically just a list of songs they think are cool and popular. The list is actually quite cool, with little to no pop-type stuff and certainly no Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears.
Pearl Jam managed to rake in quite a few tunes, and that's a good thing. Here's their cut of the glory:
Suffice it to say, I was somewhat bemuddified by the absence of super-radio hit 'Yellow Ledbetter', and even more surprised by the inclusion of 'Crazy Mary', but oh well. To View the entire list, check it out here.
21 September 1999 - The upcoming Pete Townshend Live will contain a bonus disc featuring Ed Ved on 'Magic Bus' and 'Heart To Hang On To'.
17 August 99 - MOM3: Music For Our Mother Ocean will feature the previously unreleased 'Whales'. Apparently Jack Irons will handle the vocal duties.
14 July 99 - MuchMusic will be airing some footage from this year's Tibet Freedom Concert. There will be an Ed Ved appearance with backing duo C Average, which I predict will be either 'Betterman' or, sans C Avg, 'Last Kiss'. The show airs at 3:30 PM and again at 7:30 PM EST.
13 June 99 - This may be happening in the States, but I'm sure more than a few Southern Ontarians will be going to the 1999 Tibet Freedom Concert. According to Five Horizons, Ed Ved will be doing a solo performance during the Chicago show in June. And that's all I have to say about that. Stay tuned, as I might be going now myself.
8 June 99 - A lot of people have been emailing me looking for 'Last Kiss' singles. Well, knock it off! Just kidding. But seriously, the public will be treated to the single in just a few weeks according to those know-nothing know-it-alls at Synergy. All proceeds from the CD will be going towards CARE, an organization supporting Kosovo refugees. The single's b-side has been confirmed as being 'Soldier Of Love'.
In addition to the single, Epic will be releasing a benefit CD featuring 'Last Kiss' along with a few other artists.
I had originally said that the single would be out in May... well, it's not, according to, again, Synergy.
7 June 99 - Jeff and the other Two Fish (collectively, the Three Fish) will be playing the Cabaret Music Hall in Montreal.
5 June 99 - Three Fish play either Lee's Palace or the Phoenix. This venue is apparently pending.
1 May 99 - As I'm sure you've all heard, the Pearl Jam family picture album, place/date, will be released in it's commercial, soft-cover form in North America in just a few days. As far as I know, it will be available in Canada just as it will be in the States. Expect the price to likely fall in the $40-50 range, but that's just a guess. Don't quote me on that.
24 Mar 99 - Check out MuchMusic on Thursday for two broadcasts of 'Hype!'. The first one's at 9:00 pm EST, and get ready for another at 12:00 midnight!
24 Feb 99 - Well, Pearl Jam has been nominated for a few Grammys this year by The Recording Academy, aka the National Recording Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Now, I know how a lot of Pearl Jam fans feel about Grammys, but c'mon, this is still kind of cool. Pearl Jam's changin', so maybe we should, too. The three nominations range from cool to weird, but a nomination is nomination, right? Am I right?! Yeah!
Anyways, the guys have been nominated for:
Now, in a traditionally stupid Canadian television fashion, I doubt that we'll be seeing a Gemini award for Pearl Jam's Canadian-based 'DTE' video, 'cause the rules as to what is and is not Canadian in this event has become so convulted that it boggles the mind. For those of you who don't know what a Gemini is, it's basically the Canadian equivalent to the American Emmy, only every one in Canadian television receives at least one each year. (Well, almost, but you Canadians know what I mean, right?! Damn CBC...) But enough with the editorializing, eh...?
