Scott Weiland Praises Limp Bizkit, Korn, Orgy Scott Weiland
Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland will have a new song in
stores when the highly anticipated soundtrack to the Mike Myers movie,
"Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me," is released.
The soundtrack features the singer's collaboration with Big Blue Missile
on a cover of the Zombies classic "Time of the Season." Weiland believes
that rock music is making a return from the dead, and he told MTV News
all about it during a recent stay in the studio with Limp Bizkit leader
Fred Durst.
"There's starting to be some excitement within rock and roll again,"
Weiland told MTV News. "You know, I think rock and roll and alternative
music has gotten fairly stale and kind of boring in the last couple of
years, since the earlier part of the '90s. And there's some good things
happening again, sort of like a breath of fresh air. You know, bands
like Limp Bizkit and Korn... Orgy, and a few others."
Also resuscitating rock on the star-studded "Austin Powers" soundtrack
are such acts as Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, R.E.M., and "Scary Spice"
Melanie G (see "'Austin Powers' Lures Scott Weiland, Flaming Lips"). The
album is out on Tuesday.

May 6:From:Alternative Press
"Between my album and the next STP album, I'm going to save rock and
roll," Scott Weiland told A.P. early last year when promoting his first
solo bow, 12 Bar Blues. We know that rescue attempt ended badly with the
singer's relapse and arrest for heroin possession, but now Weiland has
reunited with his old bandmates - and this time it's only fans' hopes
that are high. Working again in L.A. with producer Brendan O'Brien,
Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric
Kretz have quickly rekindled the big-rock magic on songs such as "Down,"
"Heaven & Hot Rods" and "Church On Sunday." So, will rescue attempt No.
2 succeed?
Back over to you, Scott: "This is the first time since Core that there
hasn't been anything to distract us artistically, and there hasn't been
anything to get in the way of our personal relationships with each
other. We sort of have a chemistry again that we were missing over the
last few years, and I think we all feel very excited and optimistic
about what this record could bring to us from a musical standpoint."

Apr 30:
From MTV:"Austin Powers" Lures Scott Weiland,Flaming Lips
More shagadelic artists have signed on for the soundtrack to the
upcoming Mike Myers flick "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me."
The always-intriguing Scott Weiland will join the Big Blue Missile for a
version of the Zombies chestnut "Time of the Season," while the Lucy
Nation and the Flaming Lips will be weighing in with "All Right" and
"Buggin'" respectively.
Weiland can now be added to the list of artists already reported to be
contributing cover songs to the soundtrack. R.E.M. has recorded a
version of Tommy James and the Shondells' "Draggin' the Line;" Lenny
Kravitz has reworked the 1970 Guess Who stomper "American Woman;" and
Scary Spice Mel G. has teamed up with Timbaland for Cameo's "Word Up."
Not to be outdone, Dr. Evil himself (a.k.a. Myers) will be crooning
"Just the Two of Us," which was originally recorded by Bill Withers and
Grover Washington Jr.
Other big-name apperances include Green Day ("Espionage") and Madonna,
whose "Beautiful Stranger" was produced by William Orbit (see "Madonna,
Green Day, R.E.M., Kravitz, Others To Join 'Austin Powers'").
Genuine groovy flavor will be provided by Burt Bacharach, who has again
teamed up with Elvis Costello for a version of Bacharach's own "I'll
Never Fall In Love Again." The Quincy Jones instrumental "Soul Bossa
Nova," which accompanied the opening '60s sequence from the original
"Austin Powers" movie, is scheduled to make a return soundtrack
appearance as well. The album is scheduled to be in stores on June 1.
Meanwhile, Kravitz and "Shagged" co-star Heather Graham recently took to
the desert to shoot the video for "American Woman," the first single off
the soundtrack. Graham plays Felicity Shagwell (Powers' new babe of the
moment) in the film, which will be in theaters on June 15.
