Welcome to Women In
Rock, a website devoted to female musicians. This site is new, as
you may have already figured out *grin*...but, with any luck &
some hard work, hopefully it's visitors will deem it worthy of their visits.
Between Lilith
Fair and the VH-1 special,
"Rock's 100 Greatest Women", I became somewhat inspired to create my own
little tribute to a few of my favorite female musicians. My
own tastes vary a great deal, depending upon my mood, but the following
women seem to always have a bit of something for all occasions.
Liz
Phair ~ I happily stumbled upon the CD "Exile In Guyville"
a few years ago and hungrily devoured it's contents like a fledgling bird,
and although it's about time for something new from Liz, I continue to
be amazed at her talent as a songwriter, singer and guitar player.
Tori
Amos ~ I read somewhere that the majority of Tori Amos fans were
shy and introverted, hence her enormous internet fanbase. I
suppose there could be some fact to that, but I just became mezmerized
the first time I heard her sing "God". The hauntingly beautiful tone
of her voice, matched with often equally disruptive lyrics give Tori Amos
a unique quality that is sometimes hard to find in the homogenous puddle
of female musicians today.
Sheryl
Crow ~ From the catchy rhythm of her first single, "All I Wanna
Do" to ballads such as "Home" and "Crash and Burn", Sheryl Crow had
me easily captivated with her often in-your-face manner and enthusiastic
live show.
Melissa
Etheridge ~ Kick ass guitar playing paired with emotional lyrics
and that rock & roll voice, Melissa's music comes across as the proverbial
iceburg...much, much more there than appears on the surface.
