HOBBIES  AND  INTERESTS

Music  is  everything  for  me.I  don't  make   any  distinction  in  listening  to  music.

I  listen  to all  kinds  of  music, from  salsa   to  rock,bhangra  to  rap,

Hindustani   or  Carnatic . I  get  up  every  morning   listening  to  M.S.SUBBULAKSHMI'S

Venkatesa   Suprabatham and  go  to  bed  every  night   listening  to  Pink  Floyd.I  am  also  proud

to  say  that  I am  myself  a  musician.I   learnt  Mridangam  for  8yrs.  from

Kumbakonam  Shri.Narayanaswamy  Iyer,one  of  the  chief   disciples  of  Palghat   Mani  Iyer

and  a  veteran  in the   field  of  Carnatic  Music.

Albeit  I  have  not  given  major  performances , I   have  won  a  number  of  accolades

at  school.I  discontinued  this  art  due  to   pressure  on  my  studies  when

I  came  to  Std.XII  and  since  then  been   unfortunate  to  continue  learning  the  same.

Another  interest  of  mine  is  Mimicry.I  have   been  succesful  in  miming  a  lot  of  actors,

to  name  a  few  of  whom  are  Sivaji  Ganesan , Rajnikanth , Kamal Hassan.

I  have  given  a  number  of  performances  all over  the  city.I  performed  

at  the  lawns  of  Hotel  New  Woodlands,Mylapore, on  the  31st  of  December 1994 

for  a  New   Year  programme  conducted  by   L&T Ltd.,

Won  the  Best  Entertainer  Award  at   Enigma '95,won  the  first  prize  for

Vareity  Entertainment  at  NEXUS ' 98 ,the  cultural  festival  conducted  by  

N.I.I.T.,Mylapore ,felicitated  with  special  mention  at  KALAIOMA,

the   cultural  festival  hosted  by  the  Chennai  Medical  College  and  so   on.

Apart  from  this,I  watch T.V.  all  day.Again  no   distinctions.From  MTV  to  ZEETV ,

STARTV   to  CNN  , SONYTV  to CHANNELV   , ESPN  to  BBC I  watch  all kinds   of

programmes.

Another  thing  which  interests  me  a lot  is   Religion.My  elders at  home  have 

always  advised  me  to  assosciate  myself  with   Hinduism.I  have  also  been  made  to 

learn  a  lot  about  ,the  most  powerful   Gayatri  Mantra,

Rig  Veda , Bhagavad  Gita ,etc.At  Vivekananda  College  we  have  the  Prayer   Hour

every  Friday  between  4.00p.m.  and  5.00.p.m. I take   pride  in  saying  that 

I perform the  pooja  evey week,which  includes  naivedyam(holy  offering) followed 

by  arathi.After  this a  group  of  students,lead  by  me,chant  verses   from 

Purusha  Suktham , Narayana  Suktham , Bruguvalli , Seekshavalli  and  Sanyasa  Yoga.

We also celebrate Sri Durga Lakshmi Saraswathi Pooja every year during Navarathri.

This  year(1998), it  was performed  on  the  26th   September .

Swami  Amritananda,Secretary, R.K.M.Vivekananda  college and Swami Gautamananda,

President,Ramakrishna  Math,Chennai,graced   the  ocassion and  blessed the  students.
