"BOOST" IN THE A.M.
Message
from Sober Joe
Hi, all
fellow alcoholics, in recovery or not, sober or not, we are still alcoholics forever. This
dawned on me when a friend with 20 years of sobriety said he was an alcoholic. I said to
myself this guy is crazy, but after obtaining my own sobriety I knew he was right. I
subscribe to the theory that alcoholism is a disease that is incurable, somewhat like
diabetes. It can be "controlled" but not cured, the many dry drunks and
relapses in our midst prove this. I have gone the whole nine yards in my alcoholic life. I
will write "my story"on another page. I have begged borrowed or stolen most of
the info on these pages. But I trust the copyright owners will understand that my
intentions are not to make money or misuse the material, and be benevolent.
Furthermore I am invoking the "fair use clause" of U.S. copyright law,
although if anybody is really mean about it please e-mail me and I will remove the
material. My only interest is to help and teach my fellow alcoholics.
Send
me your contributions, personal stories, gripes, suggestions, criticisim, feedback, etc

to men and women
You are
crazy Martha or Fred !!!! I am NOT an alcoholic.
I am a
social drinker and it makes me relax.
I can quit
anytime I want.
Well maybe
I'll cut down.
I'll just
drink beer and wine, no hard liquor.
I said
"what" ? last night ?
This
bruise ? oh I slipped on the ice.
Where the
hell is my car ?
Call in
and tell them I have a virus.
What do
you mean the Andersons are not inviting us ? they always do.
I was
downsized at work.
The cop
was crazy.
What do
you mean you want a divorce ?
Sorry dear
guess I am just too tired and stressed out.
Maybe I'll
try a non alcoholic beer.
AA ? Are
you nuts ? thats for winos and bums !!!!!
Ok, from
now on no more than 3 drinks in a day.
As soon as
he/she leaves for work I'll have a few and feel good.
Ok, from
now on only on weekends.
Doctors
say a few drinks are good for your heart.
Geeez!!! I
thought I had 200 bucks in my wallet.
Etc, Etc,
Etc.
Like all
these, there are hundreds of rationalizations, but the bottom line is not there !!!!!!
The REAL
bottom line is to take the first step, admit we are alcoholics and that we are powerless
against it, I believe this constitutes 50% of the therapy of recovery. Denial is the
opposite, denial will always keep us active alcoholics !!!!
Acceptance
of the first step is crucial to recovery.
