The Serangoon Junior College Library was born in April 1988 with the setting up of the new College. It was then sited at the present Xinmin Secondary School's premises. After three long years, the College , along with the Library, finally shifted to its new and permanent home at 1033 Upper Serangoon Road in 1991.

Below, we outline the short but eventful history of our Library with the information dug up so far. We hope to get more information soon, especially that of the Library's operation in the first three years. We call upon any old boy or girl to contribute information through our Guestbook. Thank you!

An electronic theft detection system, the 3M Tattle-Tape Security System, was installed in the Library, helping to cut down the loss of Library materials.

The system is augmented by some changes in the layout of the Library. These include separate entrance and exit points and the installation of a turnstile at the entrance of the Library. Library service is streamlined by centralising all on-line public access facilities at a single central counter.

The college Library also began handling non-print materials, namely CD-ROMs and video cassettes tapes, were available for loan to all members. Hardware for the use of these materials were be placed in the Library.

In 1995, the Active User program was launched in a bid to encourage and motivate SRJCians to make full use of the library resources and books to aid them in their studies. The program keeps track of the students who borrow the most number of books each month, and their names are printed on the library notice board.

In June 1995, an internet corner was set up with the acquisition of three computers, one for Internet access and the other two for the use with CD-ROM titles. With these computers, students can access research materials for their projects.

Many new posters and notice boards were put up by student Librarians with colourful displays and inspirational posters.

Decorations were put up during festive occasions like Christmas, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Puasa.

A feedback/ suggestion box was installed to elicit helpful suggestions from users.

The grandest Investiture ever hosted, and we even had both our principal Miss Yong and Vice-Principal Mdm Mark to grace the occasion.

The Resource Room was transformed into a Media Centre as thirty new PCs with internet and intranet access were installed in it.

This year saw major changes in leadership. Mdm Kwok stepped done as Teacher Co-ordination, and was taken over by Miss Gan. Similarly, our Librarian Mrs. Lim was appointed by the National Library Board to head the new Yishun Community Library, and her former post taken over by Mr. Ian Yap.
