George Clinton & the P-Funk Allstars

Review 10/21/99 From: J-thang

Just in from the Chicago show which clocked in at 3 hours, 40 minutes. Quick rundown: Low-key P-Funk with horn solos; Bop Gun, Undisco Kid, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge (including Good to your Earhole, Pumping it Up, Busting Loose, Gamin on Ya); Tear the Roof Off / Thumpasaurus; LaShonda doing "Sumpin Stank & I Want Some", Treylewd with "Billy Boy"; Maggot Brain, Dogstar, One Nation; Atomic Dog; Free Your Mind - HOF riff; Music for my Mother; You & Your Folks, Me & My Folks, Funky Dollar Bill; then real encores (after half the band was dressed & gone): Flashlight, Knee Deep. Personnel - the usual suspects (didn't see Paul Hill) The performance was one of the better ones I've seen, and they did a great job getting a very young crowd (who didn't know enough lyrics - sorry, but I'm old school) totally into the show. The encores were genuine -- they were really going to leave after Atomic Dog but stayed another 20 minutes or so. Blackbyrd & Kidd Funkadelic -- heck, the whole dang guitar army were very on top of their stuff. One thing you don't see too often: Garry in street clothes during the Knee Deep encore, almost begging George to get off stage. Good show.
