Thomas and Rosanna Prichard

Thomas Pritchard was born about 1832 in Tennessee. He married Rosanna Lumley on 4 November 1852 in Lawrence County Missouri. Rosanna, born in Arkansas about 1834, was the daughter of George Washington Lumley and Elizabeth Chenault.

They are listed in the census of Newton County Missouri in 1860, living near her parents. By late 1861, all had moved to Texas, and Thomas, as well as the Lumleys are on the tax rolls of Tarrant County Texas in 1862.

In the fall of 1861, Thomas enlisted in the Confederate Army in Tarrant County. He served in Company "A" 17th Texas, Alexander's Regiment organized in Grapevine, Texas until the spring of 1864. He returned home and re-enlisted a week later in Waco, Texas and served with Company "A", 26th Regiment until the close of the war.

Unable to locate Thomas and Rosanna on the census of 1870, but he is on the Tax Rolls of Williamson County Texas in 1871 and 1872, along with Elizabeth Lumley, now a widow. (in 1870 the Lumleys are in Caldwell County Texas)

Just when he and Rosanna moved to Llano County is unknown, but they are living there by the census of 1880. His application for Confederate Pension indicates they moved there about 1875, and gives his Post Office address as Bluffton.

After the war Thomas drove a stagecoach from Austin to Llano. The little town of Bluffton, on the banks of the Colorado River, was a stop on the stage line. I expect he saw in Bluffton what *"Ike" Maxwell saw, "a garden of paradise".

In March of 1871 Thomas and Rosanna "adopted" my grandmother, Dollie Harriet Crider. One story relates that Rosanna, who had recently lost her only child, (an infant) was the mid-wife at her birth. Dollie weighed two and one half pounds, and her mother died. Grandma Prichard kept Dollie alive in a shoe box surrounded by heated bricks.

If Thomas and Rosanna did have a baby to die, there is no record of it that can be proved. They raised Dollie as their own, and she considered them her parents.

Rosanna died about 1908 and her grave was one of the graves moved to the *new Bluffton Cemetary in 1936. Thomas died on 22 May 1930 in Runnels County near the little town of Crews, Texas at the home of his niece, Mrs. J.E. Rowe. He is buried in the Crews Cemetary.

George Washington and Elizabeth Lumley

Washington Lumley was born about 1800 in South Carolina. He died about 1871 in Texas. He married Elizabeth Chenault, She was born about 1808 in Tennessee.

The Lumleys are in Newton County Missouri in the 1860 census. On the Tax Rolls of Tarrant County Texas 1862-1863 and 1865. They are in the census of Caldwell County Texas in 1870. Elizabeth appears on the Tax Rolls of Williamson County in 1872, a widow, then dissapears from records.

Unknown how many children Washington and Elizabeth had, and appears they raised at least two grandchildren.
Some of their children settled finally in Mason County near Pontotoc, Texas, a few miles from the town of Llano.

Their known children are:

Rosanna Lumley, born c1834 in Arkansas, m. Thomas Prichard 4 November 1852 in Lawrence County Missouri.

William S. Lumley, born 13 September 1837 in Missouri, died 18 November 1898 in Mason County Texas. He married Martha____ about 1859 in Missouri. Martha was born 10 April 1842 in Tennessee, died 18 November 1926. Both are buried in the Union Band Cemetary in Mason County.

William and Martha had nine children:
(1) Washington Lumley c1860 Mo; (2) Sarah M. Lumley c1866; (3) Martha Lumley c1869; (4) Mary Lumley c1871; (5) William Reuben Lumley c1874(m. Susan Wooten); (6) Margarette Lumley c1876(m. Jesse Peel); (7) Walter Stephen Lumley c1878 (m. Laura Patterson); (8) Willimith Lumley c1880 (m. J.E. Rowe); and (9) Pricilla Lumley c1884 (m. J.J. McGuffin). All but the first child born in Texas,

Ann Lumley born c1839.

Emeline Lumley, born c1853, married George Fletcher Meador about 1880. George, born c1835, died 15 Setember 1920 in Burnet County Texas. Emeline was his second marriage. His first wife was Amanda Jennings.

George and Amanda had three children:

George W. Meador, b. c1871 (m. Ellen Herridge)
Cally Meador, b. c1876 (m. Walter W. Wiley)
Ally Meador, b. c1879.

George and Emeline had two children:

Charles Memphis Meador, born 31 May 1881, died 29 February 1944 in Burnet County Texas, married Willie Mae Wyatt on 8 April 1915 in Burnet County. Willie Mae was the daughter of Jordan and Ada Ann (Herridge) Wyatt.

Mary, born c1834, married Samuel Ayers, a physician living in Newton County Mo, 1860.
Sarah, born c1828, Arkansas, married William Nelson, living in Bates County Mo, 1860.
