Jordan & Susannah Wyatt
"the first generation"

(01) Jordan Wyatt c1775-1849

Jordan, I (the 1st) was born in North Carolina about 1775. His given name "Jordan" seems to be unique to our Wyatt family line, and first appears on official records as bondsman for Thomas Wiett and Rachel Parks who were married in Rowan County North Carolina, 12 January 1793. His name does not appear on census records in 1790-1800. He probably still lived in parents household.

Jordan married Susannah Welch in Madison County Kentucky on 8 February 1803, Thomas Welch, bondsman.

About Susannah: According to the later census records of son, Jordan, his mother, Susannah was also born in North Carolina. I estimate her birthdate between 1775-80. She died between 1820-1826.
The Thomas Welch that signed the marriage bonds could have been father or brother.

In 1818 Jordan and Susannah purchased land in Estell County, located on the north banks of the Kentucky River, and including area known as Old Landings Hill, then Estell County, now Lee County Kentucky. (Lee Co. established 1870) This land is now a part of the Daniel Boone Natural Forest.

Census records from 1810 to 1830 indicate that Jordan and Susannah may have had as many as nine children, but only six were named in his will:

(02) Dempsey B. Wyatt, 1806-1882, m. Ebeline Stribling.

(02) Nancy Wyatt, b c1808, m. Stephen Collins 10 June 1828, Estell County.

(02) Lenora Wyatt, b c1816, m. Phillip Howard 31 March 1836, Estell County.

(02) William Wyatt, b c1818, m. Nancy Howard 6 Sept. 1847, Estell County.

(02) Jordan Wyatt II, b 2 March 1820, m. Charlotte Petty 1849, Bexar District of Texas.

Following the death of Susannah, Jordan married Margaret "Peggy" Moore, a widow aged about 47, on 21 September 1826. Mrs. Moore was apparently a widow of some means. She owned land in her own name near Possum Run Creek at the time she and Jordan married, and together they were involved in several land transactions in Estell County.

Jordan died in 1849. His will dated 29 August, and probated on 17 September. Names heirs: wife, Margaret; children: Marcus Wiatt, Dempsey Wiatt; Nancy Collins; Lenora Howard; William Wiatt and Jordan Wiatt.

It appears from other records that the PARK/PARKS family were closely associated with the
WYATT family of Rowan County, and this association seems to have spanned many generations.

Also on Madison County census 1810 is MARK WYATT, brother of Jordan. He married LUCY WEST
in Madison County in 1808. One known son, WESTLEY WEST WYATT.

Another brother, JAMES WYATT married HELENA NEWTON in Estell County 1816.
Both these families are on the 1820 census roll of Estell County Kentucky.

A THOMAS WELCH married JANE THOMSON, 28 October 1772 in Rowan County North Carolina.
Possible parents of Susannah??? I note this merely for research purposes!

PHILLIP and LENORA (WYATT) HOWARD are on the census of Owsley County Ky in 1850
lists their children: NANCY, SUSAN, MARY,LUCY, JORDAN and ELLEN HOWARD.

WILLIAM and NANCY (HOWARD) WYATT are in the 1860 census of Estell County
and lists their children: PHILLIP, LEONARD, EDNA and MELINDA WYATT.
