The Outreach July,2001

Good Things Are Starting to Happen! There is an old rule that things in church slow to a crawl in the summer months. That doesn't seem to be true for us this year. How's this for a little summer time activity?

The Service for the Blessing of the Animals was a "howling" success! (sorry, I couldn't resist)

*Our first Third Thursday youth night had 10 young people in attendance. What a way to start!

*The first four Sunday nights in July will give you the opportunity to learn about Eastern Religions. Join me at 6:00 for this interesting study of Hinduism and Buddhism.

*Check the schedule for fun church league softball games.

*How about an old fashioned Ice Cream Social on July 15 at 4:00? I can't think of a better way to beat the heat.

*Vacation Bible School will be held on July 24, 25 and 26.

*Look for exciting opportunities to Ignite our church's ministry with the Evangelism Committee and our Igniting Ministries Campaign as we prepare for September as Open House Month in the United Methodist Church.

*Look for exciting chances to help with changes in our children and youth Sunday School programming as we prepare for something new in September.

Oh, and you can also play Volleyball on Mondays, go to prayer meeting on Tuesdays, join the Choir on Wednesdays, attend UMW meetings and functions, go to Sunday School on Sunday mornings and, oh yes, try worship too. See you this summer.

Juanita Wolfe has broken her arm and needs our prayers and maybe a note to cheer her up.

PRAYER MEETING Every Tuesday at 6:00 P.M. Our attendance has picked up the last two weeks. Thank you, Lord! Please come and be a part of this special time. Nancy always has a devotional for us with a lot of good spiritual thoughts. Come and receive a blessing. You may be in need of prayer, need the fellowship with your Christian friends, or just want to enjoy the privilege of praying for all those who need prayer. Whatever the reason, just come and let your cup be filled again.

Fran

Prayer Chain

Please remember to call our 24 hour Prayer Chain. A prayer request can be called in from anyone for anybody. All of us stand in the need of prayer. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.

My Hand in God's

Each morning when I wake and say
"I place my hand in God's today.
" I know He'll walk close by my side,
My every wandering step to guide.
He leads me with the tenderest care
Where paths are dark and I despair,
No need for me to understand,
I but hold fast to His hand.
My hand in His. No surer way
To walk in safety through each day.
By His great bounty, I am fed,
Warmed by His love, I am comforted.
When at day's end I seek my rest,
I realize how much I am blessed.
My thanks pour out to Him,
and then I place my hand in God's again.

Fellowship Sunday School Class News

We are beginning a new series of lessons on June 3rd. We will be studying scripture from the Old Testament including the boods of 1st Kings and some of the Prophets.
Some of the questions we will be looking for answers to are: "How can I make the choices that will bring the most positive results for my relationship and my future?"
"How can I give of myself and what I have more freely when my first inclination is to keep for myself and the people closest to me?"
"How can I commit myself fully to God, rather than only partially or not at all?"
"To what extent am I faithful to my promises to others and to God?"
"How can I discern god's call in my life and answer it?"
I know that as we search to find the answers to these and other questions, we will grow in our faith and have a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father. In our class, we have sort of an open forum in which we all participate. In seeking answers together and sharing personal viewpoints, we not only grow spiritually, but we grow closer in our relationships with each other.
If you are not a part of a Sunday School class, we invite you to come join us. We'd love to see some new faces. Sunday School begins at 9:00 am in the christian Life Center. (And just in case you feel you'd rather listen than speak, that will be OK. We just allow the Holy Spirit to lead us and He doesn't always lead us to speak, but sometimes to listen).

FEED THE HUNGRY

Please don't forget to give to our "Feed The Hungry Mission Program." There is a glass jar sitting on the floor behind the last pew on the right side as you enter the front door of our Church. There is also another container in our Christian Life Center. $218.00 was turned in last time. Just pennies make a difference. Of course, we welcome any kind of change, and paper money, too. The Lord will surely bless you for your help.

Young Sprouts

We are having a good time with "Fun To Learn Lessons". We discussed being lonely like Hagar, being special like Moses, and being made in God's likeness. It was during this lesson that the students looked at old photographs-one os which was a very young Kay Ray. Brandon did not know his grandmother.

While looking through the old pictures, we discovered that our Church did not have double center doors, but a door on each side with a partition between them. No windows were in the front either. We found this to be food for thought...."Why two single doors?" "Was one for men and one for women?"
"What do you think?" Please come to Sunday School.

Bits and Pieces

Clara has had knee surgery again. She's going back to the doctor three times a week. Say a special prayer for Clara. She loves our church.

Do you know that Sam calls his Dad Greg?

Picture this: A very small, old wooden house that's 100 years old or more, never been painted, no two planks the same length, warped and rusty sheet metal roof, no underpinning, one tiny window with a very small air conditioner, no shrubery, no walk way, no grass, no front porch.
You knock at the door, go on in and say hello. A small voice says "Come on in". (There's a padlock hanging on the outside of this door) (The little dog is barking) You walk in carefully. The floor has some kind of covering. It seems like the ground is under this covering. This area has no windows, very dark. The next door, about 5 feet away, is unfinished 1/2 inch thick plywood, 4 feet wide. You push this door (it squeaks), you say hello again and the little voice says "Come on in". The little dog is tied and stops barking. The room is very dark. The little voice is a precious lady sitting on her bed waiting for her lunch. She loves Jesus and Wilsonville Methodist Church. This house is her HOME.

Newsletter Articles

We have had lots of positive feedback about the newsletter. Everyone says they enjoy the articles, information and puzzles. I'd like to thank everyone who sends articles each month. It sure makes my job easy. If you'd like to contribute, please send them to me at: maturgeon@aol.com

We have some members who don't get to Church very often because of their health and this is the only way they have to get updates on all the happenings at WUMC. Please contribute.

Thanks, Mary
