Ok, so I don't have a dog, well not at the time anyway; but I have great hopes that soon another four footed creature will join our happy home. I have been looking around at different breeds, and this page is dedicated to dogs and my search for the perfect pet. Don't get me wrong, I love fatkitty with all my heart! I am not seeking to replace him, merely to give him good company. I'l be updating this page monthly, so check back from time to time to learn with me about the different breeds available, as well as training tips, contests, games and interesting links!

My searches have taken me far and wide on the net as well as the local papers; and folks, I gotta tell ya, if you are a working dog fan, you MUST check out the Catahoula Leopard Dog. This dog wins my vote for MOST VERSITILE DOG of the month!

The Catahoula Leopard Dog works cattle, hunts wild boar, does search and rescue, law enforcement, is a guard dog and a gentle babysitter for kids! This dog has a sweet temperment, doesn't shed much, trains easily to any task you may require and LOVES to WORK! Check it out!

I am real partial to HOUNDS. I just love their deep chested bays as they run through the woods hot on the trail of a varmit! Now, I've never hunted a dog before, not keen on the idea myself, but there's nothing like a hound to keep the rabbits and racoons out of the garden! One of my favorite hounds is a Weimeraner. I found a great site that tells you everything you need to know, and introduces you to Ben, a magnificent looking dog!

These are high maintenance dogs in that they need LOTS of attention and training. But if you have the time on your hands, and space where they can run off some stink, it's a great dog to make a part of your family. Most owners recommend that they are kept busy to avoid them finding something to do on their own. They are very smart and love kids! Weimeraners are not aggressive dogs, but they will place themselves between you and harm's way.

The Basenji has intrigued me for years, and I did a little reading up on this dog. If you are looking for a very clean, fastidious little dog, look into the Basenji. I rate these as VERY high maintenance dogs. They are one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs in the world, therefore, they need extensive training, and a LOT of stimulation and exercise.

Check out the sites I discovered to hear their curious little sounds. Basenjis do not bark, but they can be very noisy. They also tend to have a lot of health problems as well as behavioral problems if they are left alone and bored for too long.

Make sure to check out the Greyhounds! There are many Greyhound Rescue Organizations out there who are looking for good homes for these sweet and wonderful dogs! They shed very little, get along very well with people and other pets, have a darling temperment and adore interaction with people. I am thinking of looking into adopting one of these myself!

For those of you who are lucky enough to have a dog in your family, you owe it to yourself and to your dog to check out Pam Young's training site. She offers great advice for all kinds of problems and issues. Also an amusing site, Laundurmutt, can lend you a few tips for training your pet as well.

To find other breeds and trainers, I recommend Petlinks, which has an extensive list of links and information. Good luck with your pets, or if you're like me, good luck with your searches!
